This is a full-strength beer containing 5.4% by vol. alcohol, which is spicy and not too strongly hopped. Stammbräu harks back to the optimistic mood of the early days, still prevailing here, and is advertised with period illustrations from shortly after the turn of the century. Stammbräu is only available in the traditional cliplock bottles, which have been re-introduced. Particularly in the Vienna area. 12.6°

(bottle) pours a clear golden colour with a frothy white head. aroma of honeyed pale malts, with a hint of toffee, grain and some spicy floral hops. flavour is mostly pale malts, with a light hint of barnyard and a herbal-hoppy, slightly salty finish. medium body and carbonation.

Bottled in Vienna. Pours straw coloured with a tiny fast diminishing white head. Nice strong malty aroma. Taste is soft and rather sweet malty, leading to a nice hoppy end. Good beer.

(Old BA rate - bottle) Brought to me by a friend after his recent stop in Austria, thanks Rob! Pours with a half-finger of pure white foam that doesn’t last long at all; a very average looking clear yellow color that doesn’t even show off some carbonation rising. Musky graininess in the aroma; sorta herbal hop that actual comes through relatively well and crackery maltiness for the aroma. The taste leans a little sweeter than suggested by the nose; some fruit (apples?) comes in and the aftertaste is not the most pleasant in the world, fairly minerally as well. MF is thinner to medium for the style, with some tiny bubbles. Not really great drinking, nothing interesting (even for the style), not too clean, and not all that refreshing. Eh.

Bottle. Clear golden pilsner with a white head. Malt and hop aroma. A lot of malt in the flavour with a nice hoppy bitter finish. A decent pilsner and quite drinkable but nothing too special.

Beatuiful apperance. Nice pale sparkling body and a big good-lacing creamy head. Aroma is a little bit dry, and earthy. Pungent palate and a little paper-like flavour which is also very fine hopped. A well-balanced, but tool light for me.

Bottled(500ml), very nice looking bottle, better than beer itself. Light malty aroma, nice head, gold color, sweet in taste. Very simple boring beer.

Bottle@Bad Gastein. Golden color, white head. Malty aroma and flavor, but some really strange hoppy notes lurking around. Medium-light body, medium carbonation.

This one was called Wieselburger bier on the menu; but figured out it was this. Color was a clear dull gold with a small to medium white head. Aroma of bready malt, yeast and earthy hops. Flavor was bready and yeasty with an earthy finish. A bit of light fruit throughout. Another solid, but unspectacular beer.
