COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a full-strength beer containing 5.4% by vol. alcohol, which is spicy and not too strongly hopped. Stammbräu harks back to the optimistic mood of the early days, still prevailing here, and is advertised with period illustrations from shortly after the turn of the century. Stammbräu is only available in the traditional cliplock bottles, which have been re-introduced. Particularly in the Vienna area,

June 2001 - Very disappointed in this. A very thin beer. Wouldn't waste my time on this one again. The only saving grace is that the bottle is cool and will make my next batch of homebrew look cool. :)

A very cool-looking bottle exactly like the picture shown! Brought back for me from Vienna (wasn't there a song "Vienna" by Ultravox? But I digress.) The head pours 2" thick, and then rapidly vanishes, like a cheap David Copperfield illusion. One of the more dry, herbal pilseners I've had in awhile. Certainly not what the US would think of as a "pilsener" due to its flavorful nature. Noticeably hoppy. Nice.

A friend of mine brought this back from Innsbruck for me. He was kind enough to drop it off during the blizzard of YK3. I opened it last night while playing Yatzee. Deep golden color, cheap beer smell, rice taste, classic cheap bier in a fancy bottle. After drinking this I drank Golden Anniversary because the taste was similar. Bottle will be re-used for home brew bottling.

Little head, lacking nice clear golden color of most Pilseners and the taste is just downright foul.

Good aroma, somewhat spicy, overall an enjoyable Austrian Pilsener.

Acrid tomatoes in the nose and in the back of the throat…Enough hay to wake up your hay fever…

Not very hoppy. Slightly malty finish. Nice warming pilsner. Had this in Austria near the brewery. One of my favorite pilseners, though pilsener isn’t one of my favorite styles.
