Tap. Very good. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and roast. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and long length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

On tap at the brewpub. Didn’t seem like an Irish Red Ale when I tried it, actually seemed more of a Barley Wine that hadn’t been cellared. Got a bit of heat from the alcohol that doesnt seem to be there. Light floral aroma, but more toffee malt than anything in the taste.

Tried on tap at Wig and Pen back in May. Darker red in colour than I was expecting. Roasty malt aroma with the same in the taste, lightly burnt caramel. After having three of beers that were hopped right up this was a change up and probably should have been tried before the others.

Draught at Wig & Pen, Canberra. Pours dark ruby with a creamy beige head. The aroma is roasted malt and dark fruit. The flavour is roasted malt, nuts and dark fruit. Smooth mouthfeel with a good lingering bitterness in the finish. Not bad.

Disappearing head. More black then red. Vegemite tastes at the back end. Not the best at the Wig and Pen.

Draught at the brewhouse. Arrived a dark coppery black with ruby highlights and a creamy white head which was mostly diminishing. Aroma full of toffee and candy sugar up front, some biscuity notes and malty caramel in the back. Taste was more caramel and toffee, sweet malts and mild golden syrup. Light to medium bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a short finish.

21 Mar 2006 - Toffee malt and steely aroma. Clear red-brown, low head and lacing. Light malt and hop flavour. Clean light bitter finish and malt lingering aftertaste.

Attractive dark tan / brown witha thin head; very inviting. Served far too cold for the style, killing the aromas and palate. Regardless some nice roasted notes lurk. Palate is fizzy. Flavours never really get going but I do concede that the beer was hardly consumed under ideal circumstances.

Malt hop aroma with bitterness. Clear brown red colour with fair head and lacing. Malt bitter flavour with hops. Flat palate.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear mahogany colour. Roasty malt aroma. There’s some soapy hops over a clean fairly hard malt body. Well, it’s... roasty. Don’t know what more say.
