3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 davidm (1777) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 18, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Not bad. Aromas of leaves, citrus, and hints of banana. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness. Palate is oily, with a thin-to-medium body. Yellow, with a frothy head.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ndon (857) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 24, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Very crisp, some citrus from the hops and a biscuitiness are throughout this one. It is quite refreshing.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 nate2g (1548) - Boomtown! / Waikato, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 30, 2009
Draught at Wig & Pen, Canberra. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma and flavour of malt and citrus. Clean and crisp mouthfeel. Good bitterness.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 madquacker (950) - Canberra ACT, AUSTRALIA - APR 3, 2008
Soft and gentle head. Not much carbonation but lots of salt. Vegemite and grip in large doses. Very nice.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 MBison (548) - Southern Highlands, AUSTRALIA - DEC 23, 2007
Draught at the brew house. Arrived a light golden, with pale yellow highlights and small white head which was mostly diminishing. Aroma was of slightly musky with hayish malts some wheat and straw in the back. Taste was similar to aroma, some sweetish honey, straw, hay, with mild wheat. Light to medium bodied with a dryish texture, slight creamy mouthfeel and a short finish. I found the bitter in the one to be almost non existent, all in all a bit too thin and clean, nothing special.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Stew41 (1572) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - APR 3, 2006
Looks a bit boring actually; rusty orange with a very thin head. Fragrant hops, fruity on the nose, but intensity is mild. palate is fairly mainstream but suits the style. More fruity, mild hops. Quite fizzy relative to the other house beers. Very refreshing but in a genuine ’bitter’ class.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 omhper (17478) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 7, 2006
Draught at the brewpub. Clear golden, small head. Dry and grassy with clean mouthfeel. Solidly malty with plenty of grassy hop character. The mouthfeel is too clean to impress. The straighforwardness of it makes it more similar to a (drier) Jever than a Czech style pilsener
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 highlandlad (1376) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - JAN 5, 2006
Had high hopes for this but found it one of the few disappointments at this excellent Canberra brewpub. Looked great: clear pale gold with a fine lasting head. But the aroma seemed more like a standard Aussie POR lager than a Saaz pilsener. Nothing soft or subtle about it the night we visited. More like wet dog and urine. The carbonation, too, seemed grabby and intrusive. On the tongue it showed sweet malts initially, with a pineapple fruitiness but the hop provided a crude and clumsy finish. Again, didn’t seem like Saaz. Bad batch? (Draught at the brewpub with omhper)
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DrunkenCumquat (86) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - SEP 24, 2005
On tap at the Wig and Pen. Good, solid pilsner with a much thicker body then is usual for the style. Flavours of grapefruit, orange and a tiny bit of wet carboard on the finish. Overally pretty decent, just not a worldbeater.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Nesta13 (205) - AUSTRALIA - JUN 25, 2005
Slightly above average aussie pilsener. It seems like the beer that the VB drinkers would have when they go to the Wig and Pen though. I can’t really see myself going for this again given the other beers available there.
