3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 omhper (17471) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 7, 2006
Cask at the brewpub. Amber colour. Sweaty, fruity, orangey hop aroma. A solidly malty beer, yet the citric hops dominates. It is fairly sweet, but the hops can balance that out. A tasty brew!

Tried on tap at the Wig and Pen. Hop characters presented themselves much better than their IPA and as such the beer went down very quickly.

Tap. Great taste, quite similar to the IPA but not as explosive. Aroma is hoppy, floral, and caramelly. Flavour has good length, with a sweet start and a bitter finish. Silky in the palate, with a thin-medium body. Amber colour, and a creamy white head.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Stew41 (1572) - Woodend, AUSTRALIA - APR 3, 2006
Intriguing style. Served at room temp in a very low fizz style. Darkish amber and very cleary. Very good lacing. Fruity nose, a touch of confectionary malts- nice. Serious palate; hop driven, resins, finishes very sharp. Reminds of top end US micro versions.

Draught at Wig & Pen, Canberra. Pours golden with an off-white head. Big malt and fruit aroma, earthy notes and underlying caramel. Same flavour. Smooth and bitter mouthfeel. A solid pale ale.

Big thumbs up to the brewpub for not only making a cask conditioned pale ale but serving it at the right temperature. Thought this looked absolutely superb: bright bronze with a terrific lather that lasted all the way down the glass, lacing as it sank. The aroma showed some grapefruit rind, lychee and toffee but seemed a little restrained for an APA. It had that watery texture that seems to be typical of cask-conditioned ales. Felt it could use a little more muscle. Nice caramel maltiness in the mouth and a fair Cascade kick. Only complaint is that it seemed a bit cautious. Judging by the earlier ratings, it seems like they might have toned this down a notch. Pity. Felt like it needed a bit more hop wallop in the finish to be a really satisfying APA. (Draught at the brewpub with omhper)

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2004 great, strong fruit/hop/sulfur smell, bit of pineapple along with the grapefruit. lots of malt guts, round and fresh tasting. Long malt/bitterness aftertaste. excellent. rer8: this is better than the IPA, the same beer basically but weaker and not as sweet, still very bitter. if little creatures was on cask it might taste like this. the leafy cascade taste stuck in my teeth for the rest of the night.

On tap at the brewpub. Served a golden color with a decent head that fades to some lacing. Aroma of citrus an d s ome malt sweetness. Just a bit of grain in the background. Taste starts with a mild citrus nip, with an easy malt sweetness. Nice bitterness and a clean finish. Medium body, mild crispness, smooth with a nice texture. Week balanced. Easy drinker, good for a few. Worth a try.
