(Bottle 33 cl) Pitch black with a brownish head. Very full-bodied, extremely thick fluid - almost tar-like! Very dry, roasted notes but also some underlying sweetness. Very hoppy finish. The strong alcohol doesn’t really shine through. 291099

Ok, what to rate for my 1000th rating? I really wanted to pick a special beer to celebrate my "anniversary" so I decided to open this, Wiibroe Porter Imperial Stout Vintage 1987 (BB: May 88), and share it with my beer geek brother and a couple of beer geek friends! I got it earlier this year from a collector who had kept it since back then and knowing that it might have been displayed on an open shelf in a light and warm room I was quite anxious to try it, fearing that it had turned skunky or something even worse. But man, was I in for a nice surprise.....
Pours a rather thin tan head on a pitch black body. Heavy and full aroma with lots of chocolate, dark fruit, plum, vanilla, oranges and a tone of coffee. Flavor is very thick and heavy. Nice sweet chocolaty and malty with a woody tone (probably from the age). The beer tastes a little old and over the top but knowing that it probably came from the above-mentioned shelf I must say it matured very well. Still a tasty and very interesting stout and I do understand why it is the highest rated Danish beer (damn Carlsberg for killing it a couple of years ago.....).

Best before ’03: Pouring a thick, black liquid with a cappuccino-coloured head. Extremely roasted aroma. Salty, watery and dry. Malt, chocolate and roasted coffee in flavour and finish. Smooth and dry palate. Liquorice, mocca and coffee-beans in aftertaste. Great mouthfeeling. Fantastic brew!

First of all I must admit: Im not much of a stout lover! This example was from 1990, and was a bit gloomy: black body, no head and lots of nuggets! the strong aroma and strong taste was bitter, smoked and vineous. The taste was stuck in my mouth for a very long time (whether that is good or bad). Way too special, odd and bitter for me!

Expired last year: Black, with a medium, khaki head. Head is lasting, with nice lace. Complex, subtle aroma. Touches of smoke, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and nuts. Nice carbonation, thick, creamy, body. Calm, flavors of caramel, nuts, burnt and roasty, malts. Finish is slightly bitter, roasty, very smooth. So very smooth, and balanced with no acidity or oxidation. Many thanks to Mads, and the person that gave him the bottle to send!

best before 2003 - black colour with almost no foam, black chocolate and nutty aroma, toasted with notes of alcohol, full-bodied, oily with a robust bitterness, long dry bitter aftertaste of cream, alcohol and coffee - very well-made and deeply balanced - thnks to fiulijn for sharing it

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark color; creamy brown head. Mid-strength aroma, with roasted malt; cheesy, cellar's mould, milk cream, light phenol… Very good balance of strong characters: malt, roasted malt, liquorice, caramel, light coffee, nuts, sweet body (and strong bitterness at the end). Yes, it's very well brewed and pleasant.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Vintage from 1990, 13 years old. Almost completely black, no head at all. The aroma is very vineous, roasted malt and roasted toffee. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate, toffee, hints of rye. Very full bodied. By the way, there was nuggets in it. Very nice stout, although i would like to taste a newer one.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: OCT 15, 2007 Vintage, cirka 2 years old.Wow, First a great thanks to Jacob Lövenlund for sharing this one with me - I loved every sip. The color is black with a chocolate brown head though collapsing. The aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, and hints of smoke - fantastic. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted bread, coffee, chocolate, and slight smoke. A fantastic beer. I hate Carlsberg for discontinuing this beer - it was the best porter and maybe the best beer on the Danish market. Unfortunatly it is the big buck and not the flavor that desides the destiny of beers.
The new release fresh: A pitch black beer with a huge very dark brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong note of chocolate and roasted malt as well as lighter notes of oranges. The flavor is very sweet with the alcohol tickling the tongue, and with notes of chocolate at first, which resides just a bit to give way to a roasted malt and coffee middle, before a quite bitter finish sets in with bitterness both from chocolate and coffee.
