Shnoodlepip – 6.5% – Pink Pepper + Barrels + Passion Fruit + Hibiscus
The next beer to appear this summer will be one of the most exciting we are yet to be involved with…
A collaboration of 3 brewers, 3 nationalities and 6 ideas.
We collaborate to learn, experiment and enjoy. With this beer we have explored new ideas, techniques, ingredients, combinations and processes.
Kelly Ryan from Good George Beer in NZ, Brett Ellis (originally from the US) from the Wild Beer Co, and Mark Tranter from Burning Sky Brewery have used their combined knowledge and experiences to create an incredibly unusual and complex beer, at every opportunity they have sourced an amazing ingredient or tried an alternative technique.
Grain – Spices – Yeast – Wood – Fruit – Flowers
20130724-095219.jpg Somerset Sharpham Park Spelt has been used for a full body. Pink peppercorns give a gentle sweet spiciness. Saison and Brettanomyces yeast strains lead to a dry spicy character that will continue to evolve. Wood-ageing in French red wine barrels for 4 months adds depth and oak. Passion-fruit brings a tart tropical fruit character. The 4 month ageing process has been finished off with amazingly tangy Hibiscus flowers.
That is one shnoodlepippin beer!
Shnoodlepip will be available in 330ml bottles and keykegs from mid-August.

Bottle from Cornelius. Hazy bronze body with a thin white head that gradually fades. No lacing. Aroma of cloudy cider, blood orange, copper coins, red wine, cinnamon and lemon. Flavour of tart rhubarb, strawberry jam and sour lemon juice. Thin body with a spritzy mouthfeel. Lively fizz. One of the strangest beers I’ve tried, with an incredibly complex aroma. Very unusual and interesting.

Bottle, pinkish gold, nose is lightly tart with hints of lemon, grape and perfume. Palate is lightly sour and dry-sweet, with old wine and farmyard over caramelised tropical fruit and jam. Dry-bitter and faintly tart finish, with a little lingering jam. Fascinating!

Bottle shared at a Sour/Wild tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks fonefan for this bottle. Cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma of passion fruits, oak, a vegetal touch, spiciness and a funky touch. Sourish flavor with passion fruit, funk, spices, wood and a drier finish, slightly lemony. Medium-bodied. Refreshing, slightly strange.

Ok, so this is probably one of the strangest beers I’ve ever smelt. It’s a slight rusty amber colour, clear, thin white foam head. Nose is pungent, and so complex and dissonant that my senses leap back from it. There’s good stuff in there like potent fresh raspberry, berry sour, herbs, citrous acidic, but then there’s some decay notes too\; malt vinegar, urine, funky farmyard, Brett yeast. And some black pepper too. Crazy. On the taste there’s much more balance. Crisp, refreshing, berry fruit, raspberry, slight vinous white wine, a light sour Berliner Weiss bitterness, slight urine acidic, lemon citrous, On the tongue it has a spicy and slight pepper linger. Weirdly once you’ve tasted it the nose doesn’t seem so crazy. It has a light sparkling wine quality to it like many of WB’s sours. It all comes together nicely. This is like the LSD of beers.

Bottle at home from Beer:shop St albans £5. Aroma is really nice sweetwticky mellon, peach melba, lychee and passion fruite. Hazed red orange coloured aroma with a persistent light pink white head. Flavour is passion fruit sweetness, lychee, and spicy pepper in the finish. Some tanin grape skin flavours in the back of the throat. . Lingering fruity tropical fuit and passion fruit fruit salad. Slighlty sticky sweet palate, medium carbonation. Very pleasent.
