3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg @ The White Horse On Parsons Green. The pour’s a soupy, murky reddish brown color with a tiny off-white head. The nose is salted dark chocolate, tangy red berry, balsamic, some wood. The taste is more tangy red berry jam. Slightly tannic, more balsamic. Slight hints of brett and buggy wood. These funky flavors are supported by a fat malty body. Notes of chocolate, charred grain, ash and leather. Dry woody finish. Easy to drink, this beer wears the ABV well. Overall, really nice effort. Thought-provoking stuff. I’m looking forward to trying more Wild beers!

une robe brune, peu de mousse, un nez puissant et complexe sur des fruits aigres et une note balsamique et une bouche puissante à la fois fraîche et ample, longueur kilométrique et finale parfaitement équilibrée. Grande bière.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at home. Hazy dark reddish brown with small beige head. Lots of overripe red fruit, milk, spices, some red wine, raw leaf vegetables, raspberry, dry tannins and wood. Starts light sweet with a tart touch that goes into a more present sourness with woody and herbal bitter finish. Quite complex, more in a Flemish red style.

Fascinating beer. A deliberately crafted sour old ale seems impossibly rare in the world with Sour 3 Guy Off The Scale but this has nice caramel toffee maltiness and cherry/vinegar tartness in good harmony.

Draft at 3 Dorstige Herten. Dark pour. Aroma of sour oak, milk and red fruit. Taste is very rich, with lacto sour, oak, mild vanilla, red fruit tannine and a vinous finish. Very good.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The medium brown pour wears a healthy, small-bubbled froth. Pretty intense aroma, heavy on the oak like a Flanders Red, very fruity - slightly cooked, even dried cherries, apples and forward grapes pair up in this acidic ensemble. Not as tannic as I would have expected from that oak and sour character. Minute earthy notes. While the beer is on the dry side, there is a caramelly feel back there, bordering on roasty, nutty in any case and that contrasts with the intense almost prickly carbonation. Thin bodied, with a slightly clashing opposition between the roast and fairly high acidity - two traits that to me often feel like nemesis in beer. It’s very tasty, pretty original stuff, but there is not much malty pleasantness left from the base old beer and a lot of acidity from the souring agents and treatment. Can’t help but think that I’d rather drink a straightforward sour brew.

Tap @ dorstige herten, medium sample. Hazy brown color, short head. Aroma is quite funky, leather, bit coffee, bit red fruit. Bit bitter, medium sour, some coffee and roast, leather. I dont really like the leathery notes in combination with a darker beer with coffee notes. Not my thing.
