COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottled, special
an aged barley wine, that has spent the last 9 months slowly developing in Marc de Bourgogne casks. We bought the barrels with this beer in mind, as soon as we opened them up the aroma that hit us screamed barley wine at us. It’s a dark, warming style of bar, with a rich, boozy, fruitcake character. The big flavours and warming alcohol make this the perfect winter beer.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Leighton for another Wild hook up, 16/01/14. HAzed chestnut brown/dark amber with a thin light beige cover that dissipates to spotting and edgework. Nose is oaky woody light booze lick, dark fruits, sugars, not a whole lot of depth. Taste comprises dark toffee, hint of spice, dark fruit mash, prunes, dates, bitter fruit notes, oaky, light booze. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying closure with tangy fruit resonance. Ok barley wine, never to be a world beater but the sweetness is well tempered and doesn’t run away and steal the show.

Bottle from BottleDog London and drunk at home. Said 9.9% abv on this bottle. Hazy dark brown. Sweet aroma even from just pouring it. Sweet fruity aroma, touch of wood, fruits are sweet strawberry jam, cherries and sweet plum. Sweet in mouth with more jam. Yes some red wine flavour from the barrels definitely. Some wood flavour on the finish. The more it opened up the more wood flavour came out which isn’t always my favourite flavour. Little bit of heat on the end. OK. but the barrel ageing is a bit too much for me.

Bottled. A hazy red beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of alcohol and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits, alcohol, and hops, leading to a bitter finish.

330ml bottle. Murky dark copper. Big grape and winter spices on the nose. Not sure I can smell enough from the beer but very nice so far. Taste continues with the same theme but is a bit too dry for my taste. Taste also has a different kind of fruitiness than the aroma, more like tangerine. Mouthfeel is average for this kind of beer. Decent effort.

Pours dark reddish brown, thin, pale, soapy head that dissolves fast. Classic barleywine appearance and aromas. Dark fruits, apples, grass, toffee, dark toast malt. But alongside it all, brandy. Warm wood and alcohol. Nice flavours. Medium-light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium tart finish as expected from barleywine. Quite a full body. I like this.

Light brown poured from bottle. Smell and taste of whisky, oak, dates and prune. Slight sweetness followed by booz
