COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy ruby red ale at heart, this uplifting beer raises a classic British style to new heights. Sometimes itís right to deviate from the normal, the average or the traditional. Sometimes itís right to embrace the new, the exciting and the different. Try our Beer and Cheese Soup recipe or drink this beer at a BBQ (or with a Sunday roast) when the malt and the meat will dance together on your tastebuds. Citrus and floral notes from the aromatic New World hops perform a spectacular balancing act against the rich and robust smooth caramel and bready sweetness of the traditional English malts, before a long, moreish and crisp citrus finish leaves you gasping for more.

Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [140213]
Dark copper brown, thin white head, little lacing
Aroma - Fusty caramel malts, old apple skin, slightly perfumy, odd aroma
Taste of citrus hop, some roasted malts, touch of nuts, bit of grass, some apple core, caramel malt, touch floral, rather haphazard
Palate - Medium carb, light to medium body. Palate soft bitter sweet. Finish is fairly bitter, some twigs in there, touch of citrus hop and some roast in the finish, slight odd bitter flavour on the tail
Overall - The aroma was rather strange to be honest, came across as a rather uneven mish-mash. Itís drinkable yes, but wasnít great - needs a fair amount of tweaking

Bottle from Market Row Wines drunk at home. Colour is clear ruby dark brown, very large foam off white head which dissipates to medium after one minute. Nose is like a new world IPA. Lots of citrous grapefruit and orange, caramel, toasty grain, herbal. Taste surprisingly doesnít have the IPA bitter citrous kick I was expecting. Malty, caramel, minerally, slight green hop bitter, slight spicy kick, slight carbonic acidic. It has a sort of chalky minerally acidic tang and lingering finish which Iím not hugely keen on.

Semihazy redish brown body, fluffy khaki head. Aroma has huge sharp hoppiness. Rich but bit overish. Some bubbly wildish aroma is rising. Flavour has metal and some bready maltiness. Rusty and bit overhopped aftertaste.

330 ml bottle. From alesbymail.co.uk.
Dark mahogany red colour with a hu-u-u-uge frothy and foamy light tan head. Sweet and dark hops, mild bitterness, woody dry maltiness and a hint of yeast in the aroma. The flavour is dry woody malty and dark sweet hoppy. Dry. Bitterness stays.

Cask in the Nedd Ludd, Nottingham. Deep chestnut with a good creamy head. Very bitter, fruity and hoppy. Notes of orange, pine, cut grass and caramel. Lots of flavour, perhaps just a touch too much going on.

Cask conditioned at The Grapes, Oxford. Reddish brown with cream head. Some initial boiled caramel dissipates with a big tropical fruity hop flavour, pineapple, mango and melon all seem to make an appearance. Lasting on the palate and pretty good.

Bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazy, ruby red. Thin, tight, lasting, off white head. Juicy. Jammy. Granary bread. Taste is jammy, light sweetness. Middle of the tongue bitter. Some Belgian style yeastiness in there, too. Medium body. A bit overly fizzy. Dry, lightly sour, light bitter finish.
