COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy ruby red ale at heart, this uplifting beer raises a classic British style to new heights. Sometimes it’s right to deviate from the normal, the average or the traditional. Sometimes it’s right to embrace the new, the exciting and the different. Try our Beer and Cheese Soup recipe or drink this beer at a BBQ (or with a Sunday roast) when the malt and the meat will dance together on your tastebuds. Citrus and floral notes from the aromatic New World hops perform a spectacular balancing act against the rich and robust smooth caramel and bready sweetness of the traditional English malts, before a long, moreish and crisp citrus finish leaves you gasping for more.

Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [140213]
Dark copper brown, thin white head, little lacing
Aroma - Fusty caramel malts, old apple skin, slightly perfumy, odd aroma
Taste of citrus hop, some roasted malts, touch of nuts, bit of grass, some apple core, caramel malt, touch floral, rather haphazard
Palate - Medium carb, light to medium body. Palate soft bitter sweet. Finish is fairly bitter, some twigs in there, touch of citrus hop and some roast in the finish, slight odd bitter flavour on the tail
Overall - The aroma was rather strange to be honest, came across as a rather uneven mish-mash. It’s drinkable yes, but wasn’t great - needs a fair amount of tweaking

Dark red amber color with medium head. Some aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Round mouthfeel, good caramel flavor, but then there is some dusty coffeish dark malt; some resins from the hops, but they are hidden. Roasted and ashy malts in the final.
Not impressed.

Cask at the Haymarket. Pours clear amber, decent off-white head. Aromas of pale fruits, light citrus, toffee. Taste is more toffee, and a big grassy note. Medium body, sweet finish. Nice.

Cask in the Windsor Castle W8. Splendid ruby colour, thin head. Sweet caramel malty aroma, fruity hop. Initial thoughts were good but flavours seemed kind of muted, a sort of generic amber ale. Nice enough.

Bottle, Chester Beer & Wine. Reddy brown pour with a big foamy head. Nose of sweet malts, nuts and hop. A simiilar yarn flavour-wise with notes of toffee and spice alongside some decent enough hop bitterness. Teeters on the edge of mediocrity and not my favourite style really.

Bottle at home listening to Maximo Park "A Certain Trigger". Grassy hop aroma. Hoppy taste, subtle spicy nose, leads to a bitter finish.

330ml botte, pours amber with an off white head. Nice bready malt backbone, bit of rye perhaps, a bit of smoke and a citrus zing . Balanced beer, light body, thin feel, lively carbonation, finish medium bitter.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2014 An outstanding English-style red ale. From a 330ml bottle it pours hazy copper-amber with a frothy light beige head of good duration and lacing. Heaps of fresh hops on the nose with citrus, orange, grass and leather on top of a robust toasty caramel malt bill. Palate is malty and moderately sweet with a refreshing citrusy hop bitterness that lingers. Medium bodied with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Lovely.
