3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Market Row Wines drunk at home. Colour is clear ruby dark brown, very large foam off white head which dissipates to medium after one minute. Nose is like a new world IPA. Lots of citrous grapefruit and orange, caramel, toasty grain, herbal. Taste surprisingly doesn’t have the IPA bitter citrous kick I was expecting. Malty, caramel, minerally, slight green hop bitter, slight spicy kick, slight carbonic acidic. It has a sort of chalky minerally acidic tang and lingering finish which I’m not hugely keen on.

Cask in the Windsor Castle W8. Splendid ruby colour, thin head. Sweet caramel malty aroma, fruity hop. Initial thoughts were good but flavours seemed kind of muted, a sort of generic amber ale. Nice enough.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, Chester Beer & Wine. Reddy brown pour with a big foamy head. Nose of sweet malts, nuts and hop. A simiilar yarn flavour-wise with notes of toffee and spice alongside some decent enough hop bitterness. Teeters on the edge of mediocrity and not my favourite style really.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2014 An outstanding English-style red ale. From a 330ml bottle it pours hazy copper-amber with a frothy light beige head of good duration and lacing. Heaps of fresh hops on the nose with citrus, orange, grass and leather on top of a robust toasty caramel malt bill. Palate is malty and moderately sweet with a refreshing citrusy hop bitterness that lingers. Medium bodied with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Lovely.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from the Stockbridge Tap.
Appearance - amber with some red hue going on. Big fluffy head.
Nose - initially too cold so only getting hops - grapefruit. Then as it warms some smoke followed by some burnt toffee comes to the fore.
Taste - citrus sweets and as it warms the toffee comes through.
Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish.
Overall - decent to good amber.
