From bottle at Grünerlřkka Mat & Mikro Festival 2014. Black body with a small tanned head. Strong roasty aroma with herbal notes, cocoa. Taste of strong espresso, vanilla, nuts and chocolate. Good thick body, nice dry roasty finish. Quite nice and balanced!

Benzai (8227) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - SEP 4, 2014
Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Joes. Opaque black color, quickly diminishing beige head. Aroma is malts, chocolate, vanilla and -unfortunately- (Dutch) hopjesvla. Taste malts, lightly sweet-bitter, vanilla, chocolate. Fortunately no "hopjesvla" in the aroma. Medium body and carbonation. Too bad the aroma was not my thing at all.

Bottle @ home. Black colour with a small beige head. Smells coffee, roasty, chocolate, sweet, slightly bourbon, vanilla. Tastes lots of vanilla, coffee, roasty, sweet, hint of liquorice. Amazing. Love it! Full body, soft carbo, slightly velvetty.

330 ml bottle. From alesbymail.co.uk. Black colour with a small tan head. Roasted malt, vanilla, ashy dryness, bitterness, sourness and coffee in the aroma. Quite nice. The flavour is roasted malt, sourness, mild vinegar, ashy dryness, vanilla sweetness and coffee. Quite enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Vinmonopolets BU. Pours very dark mahogany, close to black. A couple of centimeters of off-white head. Very pretty. Roasted malt, coffee, some alcohol, leather and red fruit nose. Sweet, with balancing bitterness. Ripe red fruit, coffee, roasted malt, some wood and some wineous flavours. Thick and oily body. Warming. Low carbonation. Very good!

Black, with traces of a beige head. Aroma is initially coffee, followed by vanilla and hints of cooked vegetables. Full bodied, with slightly zingy carbonation. Flavours of vanilla, liquorice, roasted malts, chocolate, and some chilli spice at the end. Very nice, and much stronger than it tastes.

330 ml bottle from Les Vignerons. Pitch black, absolutely no light passing through, with a big, creamy and moderately persistent light beige head. Clean and powerful aroma, plenty of sweet milk chocolate and espresso notes, obviously quite roasted, slightly ashy, with some light spices (liquorice and vanilla) presence in the background. More sweet than bitter, but overall very balanced and harmonious. Lots of burnt caramel/toffee, light smoked meat/soy sauce presence, solid chocolate and coffee taste. Unfortunately it’s way over carbonated for the style, but perhaps it’s sightly easier to drink this way. The alchool is extremelt well hidden though. Average carbonation, almost full body, oily texture. Certainly not mind blowing, but rather tasty enough.
