Leighton (11860) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 7, 2014
Bottle shared at the chriso pre-Christmas tasting 2014 - London. Pours clear, rich brown with a creamy tan head. Heavy dark malts on the nose, rich cocoa, light smoke, earth. Medium to big sweet flavor with rich bread, milk chocolate, scorched earth, raisins. Full bodied with average carbonation. Mellow warmth to finish, some milk chocolate, burnt marshmallows, more raisins, earth, ash, burnt brown sugar. Quite tasty, and ery drinkable for the strength.

Grumbo (630) - Suffolk, ENGLAND - NOV 16, 2014
Bottle shared with Fraz at Norwich Tap House. Pours almost black with a small tan coloured head. Aroma of coffee, toasted malts, chocolate, hint of sour berry, not much by way of vanilla though. Medium sweetness mixing well with a light sourness, medium/full body, slick texture, soft carbonation. A beautiful sipper for a cold November evening.

33cl bottle. Pours black with a short lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet with roasted malts, chocolate, liquor, very light peat/smoke aroma, some alcohol. Taste is also sweet, lots of roastiness, coffee, chocolate, some cherries, lightly smoked again, very light soy sauce. Finish has some light acidity and ground coffee bitter notes. Thick mouthfeel, low carbonation, full body. Excellent.

An opaque black oily appearance with no head, but the star is the aroma. Huge milk chocolate and vanilla. Incredibly smooth with a slight hop bitterness to begin with but mainly chocolate vanilla milkshake feel, and a tinge of alcohol warmth at the end. Beautiful.

Bottle picked up from ’Jacks’, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, consumed at Camping Het Rieven, Landsmeer, nr Amsterdam, Netherlands, Saturday 27th September 2014. This is damn good, really impressed with this solid gold beauty. So creamy and chocolatey its a filthy sexy beast of a beer, you need Barry White on the stereo and a rich, thick chocolate mousse yum.. Coffee creeps out from behind the chocolate and there is also a nice seam of custardy vanilla. Wonderful. A8 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.3

Bottle. It pours an opaque black body under a small, dense, light tan head leaving some lacing. The aroma is rather treacle-ish and licorice-ish, with some coffee hints and heavily roasted malts. In the far back there’s some dark chocolate, and the alcohol level is detectable too. Somehow, it also smells sweetish, like when chewing brown sugar. The flavor though, is certainly sweet, with a nice bitterness in the back, trying to,but not managing to, win over the sweetness. Treacle, salty licorice, roasted malts and some prunes, dates and coffee, and some dark chocolate, leather, bonfire and alcohol. Full body, nice carbonation and considering the ABV level, not much warmth. Lasting roasted, licorice finish equally complex as the initial flavor. A wonderful beer indeed, but I’d like some more green in it, as it is now there’s too much black I think. 140921
