Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento as Shadowís Wild Black. Pours dark and ruddy with a slight creamy pinkish head. Smells like fresh blackberry. Flavor is sugary blackberry with a fairly nasty wheat? aspect? Or maybe rice and blackberry donít go well together? At 8% Iím suggesting that this is flavored Natty Daddy. These big brewers just rearrange the plumbing and anything goes.

Bottle @ home. Just another pos that I have to clean out of girlfriendís fridge before I leave for Europe. What a gem. Deep purple appearance with a lavender head. Aroma is half purple stuff and half grape drank. Really smells like koolaid. Blackberry, grape juice, cough syrup flavor. Fucked up shit. Iíve had better mixed purple drinks in the dorm as a freshman.

12 ounce bottle from Wegmanís Leesburg. Given the Wild Red I had, I fear this. Pours a sickly purple color with a thin head that fades almost immediately. Note that I havenít even opened the bottle yet, but thatís my guess as to how itís going to go... Well, itís more of a red color but Iím pretty much spot on. Aroma of big artificial berries, grapes and cough syrup. The taste is pretty much the same... berries, grapes, cough syrup, fairly medicinal. Thick texture, medium bodied, faint booze. This is even more of a train wreck than the other "Wild" beers. Nasty.

DocLock (7824) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 9, 2012
Bottle from Blue Dog. Pours turbid, merlot colored with fizzy pink head. Nose is earthy blackberry and red wine grapes. Tastes very sweet, with notes if blackberry, grape juice, and an odd finishing flavor. Light alcopoppy palate that isnít complex.

Bottle. Blackberry and alcohol aroma. Purple color with mauve head. Very sweet blackberry flavor with moderate alcohol finish. Tastes like a generic fruit soda with cheap vodka added. Not as horrendous as the Wild Blue.

Bottled. Poured clear burgundy with a pink-tinted beige head. The aroma picked up lots and lots of blackberries with honey and pale malt backing.. as expected and not particularly enticing. The flavor found sweetened blackberry meat, honey, and a touch of vanilla at the core.. lightly tart blackberry seeds, black pepper, and prickly carbonation around.. copying and a bit sharp on the finish. Medium-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. too sweet.. OK feel overall. There is a market for this, and Iím not it.

Pour from a 12 oz. bottle at Microfest. I had to support jckp64, who was pouring this. Pours a deep purple color with almost no head. Cloyingly sweet blackberries, sugary syrup, and not much else. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a syrupy sweet mouthfeel. At 8%, this is going to get some sorority girls messed up.

Bottle. Deep purple pour with no head. Aroma and taste of a grape freeze-pop. A little boozy on the aroma, and some alcohol bite in the flavor. Doesnít really resemble a beer, more of a fruity flavored malternative.

4/27/12. My father randomly brought this down for graduation along with Wild Red - and what do you know, I havenít had either! Dark purple pour with a small tan/blue-ish head that fades fast. Huge fake blackberry aroma - very sweet with a bit of tartness. Annoyingly sweet flavor with blackberry, which is quite fake. It tastes like a flavored berry muffin, much like the Wild Blue always has. Scroll past.

Braudog (5623) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle. Blackberry-hued deep purple. The thin head disappears instantly. Not much of a nose, but drinks with a full-on berry extract flavor. Like the Wild Red, the 8% becomes more evident as it wears on you. Unlike Wild Red, the artificial sweetness in this one grates on you until it becomes unenjoyable. (#4589, 5/7/2012)
