12 oz bottle for The Beerhive in Pittsburgh. Overly fruity without the proper nose. Still, the taste is not bad and I imagine this would be even better during the heat of the summer.

Bottled. Poured clear burgundy with a pink-tinted beige head. The aroma picked up lots and lots of blackberries with honey and pale malt backing.. as expected and not particularly enticing. The flavor found sweetened blackberry meat, honey, and a touch of vanilla at the core.. lightly tart blackberry seeds, black pepper, and prickly carbonation around.. copying and a bit sharp on the finish. Medium-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. too sweet.. OK feel overall. There is a market for this, and I’m not it.

So it’s like Wild Blue, but with blackberries. This pours a deep purple colored brew with a light purple colored head. The nose is sweet with lots of fruit. There is blackberry along with a hint of toast. The taste is decently sweet blackberry juice with a mild light brew underneath. The taste is not boozy considering the abv. The mouth feel is sticky and thick.

bottle - Pours clear, reddish-purple with a small, fizzy head. It’s got an assertive berry smell that seems artificial. The flavor is very sweet with more fruit punch taste though not as Hawaiian Punch like as the Red. Is that good or bad? It’s light to medium bodied and is a little better than the red.

Pours a dark purple like some kind of grape soda with medium carbonation. Aromas of soda pop (grape almost). Flavors of sweet grape soda and grain. Corn syrupy feel and taste. Leaves a slightly unpleasant grain aftertaste. Medium to high sweet. A little to sweet.

Bottle. Deep purple pour with no head. Aroma and taste of a grape freeze-pop. A little boozy on the aroma, and some alcohol bite in the flavor. Doesn’t really resemble a beer, more of a fruity flavored malternative.

It is what it is and it had to be conquered. It’s extreme blackberry in a lager form.

PorterPounder (4609) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 27, 2012
Seaside, Fl - Modica Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark purple, light off white head. Pleasant aroma of blackberries, a hint of vanilla. Flavor is full of potent blackberries, a hint of booziness, some traces of blackberry syrup, 12 oz is enough - edging towards cloying. Mouthfeel is a bit harsh. Kind of a guilty pleasure.

Pours a clear dark brown with a thick, though not persistent, tan head. Blackberry dominates the aroma - and I love blackberries, but it doesn’t really smell like a beer. Flavor is pleasant, sweet and fruity - but not really like a beer. Might as well be fruit juice - doesn’t quite taste like wine or cider, either. Texture is smooth and fizzy, but body leaves something to be desired. I don’t believe I’ll be looking for its "sister" beers.

berkshirejohn (3638) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2012
12oz bottle from Wegman’s King of Prussia, PA. Raspberry red with a thin pink head and lively carbonation, fruity aroma - presumably blackberry with some underlying malt to show that there is some beer in there somewhere; surprisingly full bodied, with quite a weight to it, the taste is really sweet and grainy; unfortunately then alcohol then hits the back of the throat like petroleum spirit, making it more like a cheap alcopop. Worth a try - but only once.
