Commercial Description:
Strong mead fermented in bourbon barrels. Sweet honey flavors with the smoky bourbon flavor.

Editor's Note: Exists at both 16% and 18%, and ranges in color from golden to amber (the 2006 is reportedly lighter colored due to a different variety of honey and shorter aging time).

Sweet Desire’s <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/67479.jpg>risque packaging complements the intrigue and sexiness which we’ll later find is already inherent to the mead itself. (And when this bottle was uveiled at our December get-together... let’s just say that Winston wasn’t the only Wood in the room! ) Pours still with a deep, amber color and thick, sticky legs while a haze of dust hangs in motionless suspension. Bottle design adds a point to appearance rating. Aroma has a well-honeyed base with a smoky lean and notes of whisky, moss, tree bark, sweet apples and finally light alcohol which only creeps in at the finish. Smooth and soothing in the mouth and throat, but I find a slight burn as it reaches the stomach so I might suggest to pair this with a biscuit or some cheese. Flavor is sweet and powerful, with every essence of the aroma rolling around the tongue in sweet ecstacy while every nuance of the aftertaste elicits a lingering afterglow. After sampling a bottle on my own (over the course of a month), I can safely say that I can find absolutely nothing wrong with this and thereby offer it my first ever "5".

Edit, 2/15/08:The rating above was for the ’05 Vintage. I sampled "Sweet Desire" again (the ’06 -gal along with the ’06 -guy) some months ago and, along with other afficianados whom have sampled both vintages, cannot believe they have been so carelessly lumped together. Incredibly bone-headed decision. My rating for the ’06 averaged to a 4.1 (7/4/7/9/17), but I refuse to alter my score above. They are two separate meads. ’06 poured a still, pale golden with big legs. Much alcohol up front with mild licorice and apple. (The "-guy" shows notes of vanilla, it’s true.) There was a huge, harsh burn upon tasting, but a big honey sweetness came back around quickly to soothe. Tart apple makes a nice showing as well. Not as complex as the ’05 but still, a very, very good mead.

loved the bottle. pours a bourbon brown with no head. bitter , medicinal, eye watering, slightly bourbony. although the flavor is slightly sweet, it certainly is enjoyable, and the sweetness certainly does not get in the way of the alcohol. there is a brandy kind of finish to the sweet flavor. this is like a great after dinner drink, as long as you only have a little bit (remember the alcohol).

15 DEC 07, Southeast YeHa. Sweet Desire Mead. 500ml, bong-shaped bottle. Clear yellow pour. Aroma of alcohol, honey. Flavors of BIG COCONUT! Wow. Big sweetness with lingering coconut aroma placed on the palate flavor-heaven.

Oh sweet desire it truly is. That bottle with those ass cheeks sticking out invites my tongue to the orgy that will soon take place. The color is yellow like the bright sunshine beaming down from a cloud filled sky. The bees buzz about attempting to sting me with 16% vigor but I feel no pain, instead I sniff the sweet sweet honey of this beverage. Now to let my tongue loose on the playground. The sweet nectar reminds me of licking a bee hive without the obvious dangers involved. Just a hint of gingerman cookies and lovely cinnamon arouse my taste buds. As I drink this ode to the honey I feel the warming effects of the alcohol. It’s like sitting by the fire on a brutally cold day in the great white north. If you want to know what the buzz is about, it BEE about drinking a mead in the company of a good book and your pussy cat. A treat like none other!

pale yellow, viscous layers on the glass that develops legs, hot honey aroma that develops a sweetness as the alcohol fades, big sticky body, rich honey flavor, lots of hot alcohol enhances the sweetness and brings out a fruityness, finishes drier than expected,
