3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheBeerGod (3960) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - SEP 17, 2005
Bottle. Ruddy amber color with a small white ring around the edge of the glass. Nose is malty, light honey, light cocoa, and hints of caramel. Mild hop profile as well. Taste is slightly hopped and malty. There’s some dried fruit notes, light nuttiness, yeast, some earthy notes, and some toffee. Not bad at all! Body is light and smooth with minimal carbonation feel. Finishes with more sweet malts, light yeast, some toasty notes, hops and dried fruits. Decent stuff!

Clear, pale amber pour was attractive, but flawed due to a small to nonexistent head. Smell was very sweet; almost like honey. The taste was pretty much similar, with an underattenuated, apple juice like sweet-tart taste. Not a lot of hop bitterness when the beer was cold, and what was there was more of a metallic and earthy variety. As it warmed up, the hops got more pronounced and decidedly spicy. Mouthfeel was rather sticky and juicy, and aftertaste was better than the foretaste, with a fading mineralized dryness and a lot more of the yeast effects apparent. It was still a little too sweet for its own good, but serviceable at warmer temperature.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cornfield (5239) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - AUG 11, 2005
So, this is what an "English-style amber ale" (according to the Brewer) tastes like... I don’t know what that means. It has a very fruity nose, apples & cherries, along with some herbal hop aromas. And it is amber, along with a slender white head. The creamy brew has a rich, caramel malt flavor supported by a generrous doage of earthy, herbal hops. Quite tasty.

I agree with the description of a full malty body, but I don’t think this beer is being honest when it claims to have a robust hop flourish. There is a lot to like about the malt, but little in the area of hops. A decent pour and a good beer, but nothing to rave about.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 hotstuff (3213) - Indiana, USA - JUN 25, 2005
Bottle. Poured a small off-white head that mostly diminished, sparse lacing, fine-small sized bubbles, carbonated, transparent, and a copper hue. Aroma was malty, caramel and hoppy. Flavor was malty, hoppy and dry. Tingly, dry palate. Light body.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dextolen (151) - Michigan, USA - JUN 18, 2005
Bottle. Found this at a party store that had very little to offer craft beer wise. $4.99 a sixpack. Poured a nice rich red brown with a decent head that stuck around a bit. Sweet roasted caramel aroma, some hops. Nice mouthfeel. A rich beer. Sweet caramel with a hoppy bite. Smooth. I was not expecting this to be half as good as it was.
3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 thedm (4116) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - JUN 2, 2005
This bottled brew poured a small sized head of frothy fine to medium sized off-white colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lacing and a hazy light brown colored body. The aroma was mildly malty with mild hop caramel and brown beer notes. The mouth feel was mildly tingly and smooth with a mild hop note. The flavor was nice and drinkable. A fairly good amber ale. It had a mild malty caramel hop flavor. As a seemingly contradictory note, my notes also showed it to be lacking in complexity and diversity, but this review reads otherwise. Perhaps I was just wishing for more.
