vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jul 23, 2009 Bottle thanks to Rciesla. Dark amber pour is the only good part of this beer. Bottle must have aged past use. Hops have degraded and aroma is soapy and flavor follows suit. This is why you should drink IPAs fresh. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jul 8, 2009 sampler pack Bottle. Pours golden with a white head that doesn’t last. Very clear. Aroma is dominated by malt, but there are some earthy/flowery notes in there as well. Smells more like a bock than an IPA. Malty sweet flavor. There’s a little bitterness there, but not quite enough to balance out the malt. Finishes sweet. Overall, so so beer at best....certainly doesn’t fit the IPA guidelines, even for an english. It doesn’t really balance out...too much malty sweetness for the bitterness in there RHeastings (377), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 18, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. This beer appears to have been modeled on English IPA, rather than on its stronger and more hoppy American brother. The beer pours a light copper to medium golden color with a reasonable white head. The nose gives a small hint of hops, but far more malt is apparent. I see this as a detraction given the fact that the style is supposed to have a hop-forward nose, even in the English version of the style, which is somewhat more restrained. The palate is a combination of malt and hops; although the hops become more apparent as the sample begins to warm. The finish does have some lingering hop bitterness. Overall, it is not a great example of IPA, and seems to be right on the border between APA and English IPA. Below average. sjolles85 (77), Tampa, Florida, USA May 5, 2009 Not an IPA..This is horrible. NO HOPS AT ALL!!!, Hard to finish a 12oz. Thinking about pouring it out,
porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Apr 28, 2009 (Bottle) Pours slightly hazy amber with two fingers of off white head. Aroma is lightly fruity and a little doughy with some caramel. Mouthfeel fairly smooth, medium-heft, a touch prickly. Some broken, weepy lacing. Flavor of light fruitness over some caramel, maybe some light egg. A light-medium bitter pull through the finish. Fair. Seems more like an APA. curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 14, 2009 Chill haze light amber pour. Aroma is caramel and not much hop. Tastes bitter but not well balanced. This beer is not a good example of an IPA. ben4321 (952), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 9, 2009 Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 4/9/09
Aroma: Not too strong, mostly hops and earth, a little lemon
Appearance: Orange/amber color, light and clear, small white head
Flavor: Decent hop flavor, with some citrus sweetness
Palate: OK mouthfeel, lightish body
Overall Impression:
An overall drinkable and average IPA. I liked it, but in a style this good you need to something special to make a beer standout, and this one doesn’t have that. Bosco (65), Boca Raton, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2009 Amber orange, thin even lace, bitter before hop, tiny fizzies. I’m surprised this currently only has a 43% rating....deserves better. Maybe not gonna make my favorites list but still decent. Found this on sale for $6.99/sixer somewhere in SE Florida
