Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 5, 2009 Thanks to Butters for the bottle. Pours a nice, deep goldenSmells mellow with regard to the hops and a little skunk going on. Nice bitterness with a honeyed sweetness. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Apr 5, 2009 Shared with Barrios and Curly while waiting to go throw some discs. Clear golden amber pour with ring of large bubble white head. Very mild floral aroma. Caramel flavors with just the slightest hint of hop flavor. Resiney. Bitter finish. No telling how old this actually was, but I hope this is better fresh. Otherwise this beer kinda sucks. Elwood (665), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Mar 26, 2009 12 oz. bottle. A light orangish gold in color, this beer forms a small white head that is quick to fade. Lemon notes strike immediately in the nose. Maybe a touch of light brown sugar. Medium carbonation with a dry, almost chalky mouthfeel. The palate seems to follow the nose with lemon, honey notes from the malt, and a touch of resin showing up. Lingering bitterness on the tongue. I also pick up a faint yeastiness I wasn’t expecting. As the beer warms, the malt character really comes out. Unfortunately it tends to overshadow the hop character except for some bitterness. A decent beer but I was expecting a bigger hop prescence. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 14, 2009 bottle 12pack mixer.
Pours amber, with white head.
Aroma is light sweet citrus hops and some spices.
Taste, was a again sweet citrus with a profile that had more malt caramel presence.
Finish light bitter hops. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA Mar 9, 2009 Pours a clear dark amber with a this meragie head. Aroma is mostly of medium toast slightly caramely malts with a slight citrus hop. The hops come in much stronger in the flavor then in the aroma. Medium body. Leading off with a mix of citrusy and earthy hops backed and mostly balanced by the medium toasty maltiness. Finish is mostly balanced leaving a slight sweetness and nice mild but present hoppiness. Solid well made ipa, nothing out of the box but well crafted. IPAsavedMYlife (32), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Feb 20, 2009 Low carbonation. Slightly filtered. Viscusy mouth feel. Kind of one dimentional with taste of honey up front, and ending with a hops finish. Aroma smells like the bottle cap and stale beer. Gold Medal Winner? Kind of tasted like the high life of IPA’s to me. astrofrk (218), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Feb 13, 2009 Clear amber. Long, creamy head. Aroma: Earthy hops, malt. Flavor: Earthy hops in English bitter style, malt backing. MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a minimal head that dies quickly. Aromas are a mixture of honey and caramel malt, a little bit of herb/spice and a touch of citrus. This is fairly interesting and compelling up to this point. Flavor is very malt heavy and it seems more toffee-like than caramel-based. The malt presence sits kind of heavy on the palate and there is not enough of a hop presence to pull it out of its funk, even if it wants to claim status as an English IPA (at least this is how I feel about it all.) Comes off as very malty and heavy with just a little bit of a medicinal hops presence which keeps the flavor from being a complete disaster. Still, the nose made it seem like this was going to be much better.
