4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 humulus (338) - Salem, Missouri, USA - AUG 8, 2004
Dark, black-brown with teryaki, vanilla and wood stove in the nose. Off-white head and excellent carbonation. The flavor is vanilla, deep rich molasses, raspberry and an alcohol presence. Palate is a velvet bitterness. Great smell. Great taste. Great Porter.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Silphium (2711) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUL 21, 2004
Deep clear red-brown body, medium creamy tan head. Baker’s chocolate and toast aroma. Flavor is rich, layered chocolate with toasty notes and bitter coffee beans in the finish. Has an interesting vanilla-like aspect. Medium-bodied and nicely creamy. Borders on the English porter style. Quite good.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (4939) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 18, 2004
Dark brown with reddish highlights that produced a nice frothy head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of mocha, walnut, toffee, smoky burnt malts, floral hops, and a touch of berry. The taste starts nicelt chocolaty sweet with a nice balance of bitters undertone. Additional notes of smoke and some coffee character upon the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and lightly creamy, good body for a porter. Quite nice, a solid drinkable brew. Thanks for the bottle Matt (TheDM).
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 hotstuff (3213) - Indiana, USA - MAY 15, 2004
Bottle. Poured a small sized tan head that contained fine-small sized bubbles. Softly carbonated, opaque and very dark brown hue. The aroma of this beer was malty, chocolate and sweet. The flavor was sweet tasting, malty, very mild coffee tasting, and chocolate. The palate was smooth but on the thin and watery side for a porter in my opinion. There was very sparse lacing on the sides of my glass.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 thedm (4118) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAY 14, 2004
This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of finely sized light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body is an opaque black brown color with no visible carbonation. The aroma contains mild notes of dark malts and chocolate. The mouth feel is somewhat sweet thin and smooth from start to finish. The flavor contains notes of dark malt chocolate and not much else.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 igneous1 (1416) - Davenport, Iowa, USA - APR 10, 2004
color is deep brown almost black, ample head is tan and creamy, but pretty quickly disappearing. not much roastiness in the aroma, hints of apple (like i often pick up a lot of bitters) though. flavor is slight roast, mild bitterness, especially in the finish and aftertaste.
