COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Appearing almost black at first glance, Wild Goose Porter is actually a deep ruby-red ale. Roasted malt flavors accent its velvety finish.

12oz bottle (date unknown), sample from holdenn. pours a dark ruby with big head. aroma is really smoky, stale, moth balls, boy is this aroma gross. i think it actually tastes like a goose, stale malts, rust, rubber, and mild milk chocolate. despite my description the taste isn’t the worst beer i’ve had, it’s drinkable but i dont want to drink it.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a freshness at the bottom right corner of label. Poured a ruby hued black with a foamy, rocky tan head that slowly settled into a creamy, sudsy lacing. Kind of a strange aroma, berry fruity with tobacco, and a light roasted chocolate. Good even carbonation and a crisp, slick, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of watery roasted chocolate malts with some traces of caramel, a berry fruitiness, a tobacco leafy bitterness, a little barley towards the end and a dryish, thin roasted malty finish with a lingering leafiness. An o.k. porter, but I’m glad I purchased this out of the singles rack.

When held up to the light, this beer is indeed a deep ruby-brown color. It looks similar to what it says it is on the bottle: a black and tan. Aroma is minimal: roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, slight hops. Flavor is much more porter, but the body is kind of light for the style. Very quaffable and unoffensive. I generally like those qualities in a beer. Nothing close to spectacular, but nothing close to a drain pour either. A nice, middle of the road porter.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized dark tan head. The aroma is moderately strong with roasty malts and bitter floral hops. The flavor is bitter, roasty and has a moderately strong floral hops. The finish is bitter and roasty. Decent.

Roasted malt aroma, crimson....yes, the label is right, ruby-red body. Cocoa malts, and a dry, crisp finish.

Bottle. Pours a very dark ruby color with a really nice, frothy tan head. The aroma has some chewy toffee notes, bark, and chalk. This is a tad medicinal in the mouth. It reminds me a little of this awful, awful honey type liquor that I purchased in Cancun for 4 dollars, which really didn’t taste like honey at all. It’s something that is almost like licorice, but with that extra strange tinge. I guess there’s some chocolate in the mix somewhere, but this odd acidity is subtracting from the whole mix. The flavors really seem to come apart in the finish. I’m surprised to see that people had a higher opinion of this than some of the other porters I’ve had recently.

12 oz bottle, via slob. Pours a clear reddish brown colored body under a foamy craggy dark brown head one inch in height. Decent retention. Aroma is all chocolate malt with lighter accents of coffee, roast, and a touch of diacetyl. Flavor is a little thin and chalky but some decent cocolate, coffee, and roast notes. Finishes lightly bitter. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied with a slightly chalky texture. Carbonation is moderate and fizzy. A Porter on the lighter side for sure, but it was certainly drinkable.
