12 oz bottle. Clear dark brown color with foamy tan head that laced the glass. Nose is chalky and a bit roasty with a touch of chocolate. Very dry and roasty like weak coffee. Body is light without being unpleasantly watery. What can you say, its a dry, roasty porter.

Smoke, coffee, molasses, roasted toffee, chocolate, and espresso intermingle nicely in this, the best of the Wild Goose beers, I think. A touch too thin and watery, but not offensively so. Perfectly happy calling this a sessionable porter.

Pours a depp dark brownish black color. Aromas of chocolate, a touch of nut, and smoke. Flavor is bittersweet, smoke and woody. Kind of watery.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopscotch on 28-Jan-06, thanks Eric!) When I lived in DC, I always preferred the Blue Ridge Porter over Wild Goose’s offering, and doing them in succession tonight makes it clear why I felt that way. This beer is only moderately roasty and bitter, but lacks the sweetness or the chocolaty malts I prefer in a porter. It’s not that this beer is too roasty or bitter for me, that’s hardly the case, it’s just not balanced. The hoppy bitterness isn’t evident at first, but does build over several sips, eventually becoming a permanent fixture on the palate, but the roastiness in the finish actually tastes a little burnt to me. There’s a very light sourness in both the flavor and nose that I’m not fond of either. Other aromas are rather plain and generic, light roast, earth, dark malt, maybe a hint of hops. Medium bodied, fairly dry on the palate. Carbonation is moderate. Medium-dark ruddy brown in color, rather translucent in appearance. Light-tan head pours to half an inch before settling to a thin but not filmy layer. Scattered small patches of lace stick to the glass. I’m not a fan of this porter because it’s not my style. The problem is, though, it’s not even average for a dry, roasty porter.

12oz bottle via trade with hopscotch! - Thanks Jason! - Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head that laces the glass well. Aroma is light roasted malts and caramel with chocolate and a bit of coffee. Flavor is mostly roasted malts and coffee but some definite chocolate and caramel come through. Smooth and creamy but a little on the watery side and a little soft on the finish. Not too bad all in all but not up there with the best porters.

Got this one out of the wild goos variety pack and this was by far my favorite. NIce body, great foretaste and aftertaste, much like coffee and chocolate

Dark, chocolately/coffee colored porter. Aroma is coffee with roasted malts. Pours deep black with slight tan head. Tastes of mild coffee and smooth dark chocolate, leaves subtle carbonation. A very enjoyable Porter.
Note: goes very well when a 1/2 shot of Jameson Whiskey is mixed in.

Deep chocolatey black color with caramel hues on the outside of the glass. Virtually no head. Aroma was roasted malts, hops, and some coffee. Strong aroma of hops. Tastes burnt with a cobination of hops that really didn’t work too well for me. Thanks to richlikebeer.
