pjk33 (384), Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2007 Bottle. My sister Anne brought this one up for Christmas. Pours a light ruby with minimal head and maximum lace... well, at least some decent lacing. The goose on my label is not as cool looking as the one in the photo to your left. My goose looks like one of those pain in the ass yuppies with a red scarf on saying "look at me!" I don’t like this goose... I do, however, like the beer. Nose is hoppy and noble with a nice solid roasted barley quality. Flavor is even better as the Fuggles and Goldings are really evident and they show up well at mid quaff with a solid and really enjoyable bitterness on the back of the tongue. Great body to this beer as the mouthfeel with the viscosity and the carbonation are really well done. Makes me want to grab the 16 gauge, go down to the pond and shoot a goose, then roast it with an orange glaze, rosemary, potatoes, carrots.... mmmm. I wish I could kill this yuppie goose.... probably would taste like Drakkar or Polo or some tired cologne. Good beer. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jan 2, 2007 Bottle. Poured a reddish brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma was slightly subdued but some malts were picked out. The flavor found spices, coffee, dark chocolate, and some roast to it. Medium body with a coffee aftertaste. Not bad! JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 2, 2007 Darker brown color with light head. Aroma is malty, with a dark-bread style to it. Taste is a nice mix of dark bread, lightly roasted malts, and maybe a little brown sugar. Solid brown/English style ale. Better than most I’ve tried from Wild goose. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 30, 2006 Bottle from Beer Hawk; Thanks! Nose of caramel, molasses, and breadiness; clear brown with a small beige head; Flavor of molasses and burnt toast in a medium heavy body, plate and body were really nice, just need to get more flavor and get rid of the burnt taste. I found out while drinking this that Wish used to work in one of Wild Gooses pubs and since they didn’t have their own shirts at that time, the employees wore Budweiser Shirts! Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 30, 2006 (sample from irishboy)crimson red with a light brown head.aroma is brown sugar, cinamon, and burnt biskets.flavor is a mix of the aroma with some cigarette ash thrown in......very strange. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Dec 29, 2006 Bottle from Frugal McDougal in Nashville. Pours a deep mahogany with an off white head. Aroma of dark roast malts, oak, and nutshells. Flavor of dark toasted malt grains, hazlenut, and cocoa. Just enough hops to balance it out. This starts off nicely, but the finish could use some work. The strong citric and nutty notes do not seem to be harmoneous on the finish. A very dry woodiness lingers on the palate. Still, much better than I expected. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 19, 2006 Bottle. Copper body with a foamy, off-white head. Malty aroma with elements of brown sugar, hazelnuts, earth, and perfume. Toasty, sweet English malt flavors with a note of cocoa and notable woody bitterness. A fair English-style strong ale.
jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Dec 18, 2006 From a 12 oz. bottle with a blurb along the left side of the label and a best before date on the right, 09.08.07.
Poured a ruby hued brown with a small foamy off-white head that settled into a fine sudsy lacing.
Aromas of a buttery caramel, a little cocoa, a subtle citric fruity and a tad spicy with hints of minerals.
Good, even carbonation and a crisp, smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant tasting, but also at times a bit watery, toasted grains, caramel with a touch of English buttery, tobacco leafy hops at first that turn sour citric towards the end, and a leafy, softly sweet malty finish.
Not a bad winter seasonal, drinkable, but something I would only want once a year.
