FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 28, 2006 Updated: Aug 26, 2007Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark mahogany color with a large tan head. The aroma is sweet with a fruity hop element and a light earthy undertone. The flavor is sweet and tangy with ripe cherry, molasses and nutmeg. There is an earthy floral hop element on the finish. Fish (439), Kure, Japan Feb 28, 2006 Deep reddish brown color. Medium tan head. Some nice citrussy hops, mild carbonation. Some really nice malts. Impressive. I’m unfamiliar with this style. somewhere between an IPA and a stout sorta. I like it. weepingsuds (222), Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA Feb 22, 2006 Pulled a sixer from the shelf and thoroughly enjoyed. Nice fruity undertones and rich enough to add distinction. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2006 Tap at Royal. Translucent garnet brown with low retention beige head. Hoppy aroma (bar obscured), weird hop citrus fruity taste - is that a note of strawberry? Yes, it’s got some kind of tropicana twister fruit note to it, mainly strawberry, a little watermelon. Some malt supporting it, but... weird. Not ordering another of these... TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 25, 2006 Updated: Nov 21, 2006Snow Goose pours to a deep brown color with a nice, creamy tan head, and a soft carbonation. This beer has some really nice, fragrant hop aromas. Piney, citric hop aromas marry with aromas of sweet malt, toast, and caramel. The palate is a very firm malt backbone. Rich flavors of sweet malt, caramel, toast, and toffee coat the tongue. Really a muscular malt body, not too hefty, but satisfying. Snow Goose finishes malty up front then dries with a long, citric bitter hop bite that lingers, and a slightly warming burn.
Really a very well done winter ale. Really good balance of malt and hop flavors and aromas. I don’t think it will ever return to the ringwood glory days, but this Snow Goose is the best I have had in the past two or three years. The big hop character is welcome in my opinion. I would match this beer with hearty fare. This would work well with roasted turkey or pork. I would even pair this with a nice grilled steak and baked potato.
Nejhleader (924), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2006 brownish colour, nice roast aroma. Nice body, hint of a toffee/chocolate/coffee taste aftertaste is a bit dry, ggod carbonation. Jayb0 (750), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Jan 18, 2006 A nice winter seasonal. A nice, medium to full-bodied ale that is both complex and very drinkable. Nice mouthfeel, sweet up front but balanced quickly with hop spicing and some estery character. Nice fruit character and pleasnat spicy finish. ivan9856 (128), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jan 13, 2006 A pour from a 12 ounce bottle presents a dark amber bodied ale with a decent sized rocky, tan head that leaves moderate lacing. The nose is rather mediocre with some roasty malt and subtle hop aromas; there’s a tad of bready yeast here, too. Caramel and molasses flavors dominate the palate, but a well hopped finish with some good orange citrus tang lead to a long-lasting finish.
