mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 16, 2008 Bottle. Dark copper body with a creamy off-white head. The aroma has some licorice, caramel, and sugar. Medium bodied with sweet caramel flavours and some hop chewiness.
Better than the other Wild Goose beers I’ve had but still a bit weak in many aspects. efrumtheidiot (190), Maryland, USA Feb 15, 2008 pours a clear ruby-copper with a tan head. aroma is bready with some clove, spice, caramel, and mild hops. taste is a little citrusy with some spice notes, bread, and malt. a nice bitter finish. mid-full bodied with a foamy mouthfeel. i like the bitter end of this one, it really sticks with you for a while. overall not a bad brew, but i agree with some previous reviewers in that it could be stepped up a notch in the flavor department. the notes are there, they just don’t shine through as well as i’d like. not bad though. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 12, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a small tannish head. Mild nose with wood and caramel tones. Flavor is nice, but seems to lack a good enough balance to knock it up a bit more. Has a slight tangy edge that is just a touch too much for me. Feel is nice with the carbonation. This is a nice drinker. Went well with my homemade gumbo. jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 3, 2008 Thanks go Bigern for the bonus. 12 oz bottle before super bowl. Aroma picked up spotty malts and grain. Flavor had robust caramel malt at the core with a bready grain type follow through. A touch of woody grass in the finish. Fairly thin and watery. But enjoyable nonetheless. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jan 29, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a frothy almond colored head. Spotty lacing. Rich malty aroma--sweet grain/granola with molasses and a bit of chocolate. Basic malty sweetness in the flavor, molasses generally, but a bit grainy and husky with some earth and wood notes. Sweetness cut at the end by a roasty dryness. OK. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jan 27, 2008 Pours a cola color with almost no head or carbonation. Lots of reddish light comes through. Aroma is subtly fruity and sugary. This is a very malty beer and is surprisingly bitter and dry. This is not a complex brew and not a particularly flavorful one, either. There are better examples of the style. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jan 20, 2008 This reminds me of Old Jubilation. A very malty beer, and quite dry. Smooth and easy to drink, with a mild hop finish. nramsburg (200), New York, New York, USA Jan 19, 2008 Nice strong flavor. Hoppy and not too alcoholic, very light and balanced for a winter/holiday beer. Quite toasty with malt on the nose. As one previous taster noted, wet dog definitely predominates. Tasty beer and my first from Goose Island.
