COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How about a big, malty beer that evokes a good red wine and with a drier finish than you’d expect at 10.5% ABV?

Eschaton is a one-of-a-kind oaked all-malt Quadrupel (or “Belgian Strong Dark” if you prefer) that abounds with dark fruit and pit fruit flavors as well as earthy spiciness. Vanilla oak and warm viniferous notes assert themselves as the beer warms to reveal additional layers of delicious complexity. 22SRM

Suggested food pairings: Lamb, rabbit, duck, Stilton cheese, Belgian chocolate, tart fruit desserts.

Quite the foamer right out of the bottle. Had to wait some time to finish pouring gently and let sit. Still very gassy after swirling to try and knock out some of the prickly carbonation, but it was never totally right. Had nice notes of dark pitted fruits in the nose and flavor. The back end of the flavor had a slight astringency holding it back. Could be very good, but it seems I got an off one.

Dark amber pour from a 32oz growler. Clear with a slight tan head. Boozy malty raisin nose. Sweet dark fruit, malty, some belgian spice, a bit of bitterness and oak tannin in the finish. Pretty good.

Savannah, Ga. - Whole Foods Market - 11.2 oz bottle. Chestnut brown pour, long lasting, silky off-white head that sticks around a while. Pleasant, but not overly omnipresent aroma with some light dates, a hint of molasses. Solid flavor that leans to the sweet side with some hints of dates, a brief taste of sweet cherries, some subtle chocolate notes and a wee bit of alcohol. Nice sticky mouthfeel. Pretty solid, expect just a tad more from a quad though.

Bottle shared downtown during RBWG 2014 - Asheville Late-Nite. Cheers! Pours clear amber with a bubbly, off-white head. Rich malts in the nose, figs, ripe fruits. Big sweet flavor with robust bready malt character, dates, moderate toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with sticky sugars, ripe fruits, brown sugar, toffee, plums. Ticks all the quad boxes. Solid overall.

Aroma of malt with hints of prunes. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin short lasting tan head with some lacing. Sweet malt taste with hints of fruit and cheese. Relatively flat with a medium body feel and a sweet malt finish.

8/11/15. On tap at Craft on Draft. Light amber pour, copper maybe, under a nice thick khaki head, good lacing. Nice aroma, some brown sugar, dark fruits, caramel, light Belgian yeast aspect, not getting much of the oak aspect. Nice flavor, sweet entry with dark fruits, brown sugar, candi sugar, caramel, dark fruits, Belgian yeast, light oak bite. Not bad.

Bottle share at Evernote. Notes of sweet raisin and banana with cloves on cloves on cloves! Very interesting.

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs; thanks DrSilverworm). Looks good; a cloudy amberish brown with light caramel head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of raisin, plum, and mild notes of Belgian yeast. Some caramel too. Tastes like it smells with a smooth medium full-bodied mouthfeel that drinks easier than 10.5%. Enjoyable.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle from jbruner into Trappist glass. Dark brown with red hues and small beige head. Aroma is light fruit, medium body, low/medium carbonation, and some small-bubble lacing. Taste is light fruit. Not very flavorful

Bottle. Murky deep amber pour with a small light cream head. Aroma is dark fruit, red wine - but not terribly strong. Taste is boozy right away, then kind of a blend (borderline muddled) of dark fruit, vanilla, more sweetness probably coming from the booze). This isn’t bad, but it just doesn’t seem to pull together all that well either.
