COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How about a big, malty beer that evokes a good red wine and with a drier finish than you’d expect at 10.5% ABV?

Eschaton is a one-of-a-kind oaked all-malt Quadrupel (or “Belgian Strong Dark” if you prefer) that abounds with dark fruit and pit fruit flavors as well as earthy spiciness. Vanilla oak and warm viniferous notes assert themselves as the beer warms to reveal additional layers of delicious complexity. 22SRM

Suggested food pairings: Lamb, rabbit, duck, Stilton cheese, Belgian chocolate, tart fruit desserts.

Note: Formerly brewed at Thomas Creek.

16oz Growler from Beverage World. Served at around 50F.

Pours dark reddish brown with a very small head, recedes to just a tiny ring and leaves a few spots of lacing.

Aroma is oaky, vinous, bready, a lot of dark fruit, figs, plums. Good to very good strength.

Flavor features tons of really rich dark fruits, oak, vinous notes, bready & yeasty, rather sweet, alcohol is REALLY well hidden for 10.5% ABV. Very rich, tons of flavor.

Mouthfeel is medium-plus bodied, a bit sticky, low carbonation.

Nice, complex Quad. The Pinot Noir oak adds a nice dimension. Only real faults are the lack of carbonation and a sometimes high level of sweetness.

11 ounce pour - $8.00 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Viscous-looking, dark brown body with a slim, beige head.

Smell: Very thick malts with Eschatons of maltiness - notes of toasted bread, caramel, and butterscotch. Large grape-like scent here, coming across more like a large-sized snifter of port.

Taste: Presents a super sweet maltiness, pouring caramel and butterscotch sauce over bready, toasty, full-on chewy malts. A pass of port reduction with a hint of spice peering through the sugars. Spoonful of fruit chutney for a bit more, well, fruitiness. Warming and picking up more and more port-like tones on the heavy finish.

Mouthfeel: Full-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: This one’s sweet, succulent, and a real slow sipper.

Growler from Crafty Draught. Dark reddish brown, thin tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, plum, and loads of vanilla oak. Creamy textured. Full flavored. Tastes of prune juice, raisins, distant smoked malt, oak wood, a touch of vanilla oak. Sweet burn in the finish. The best Georgia Quad I’ve had. Rating 3300.

Growler from Hop City. Pours a dark, cloudy, ruby color with a thin head. The aroma is dark fruits, black pepper, molasses, and a little ripe bananas. The flavor is very sweet, and a little spicy. The palate is heavy, sticky, and the carbonation is light but lively. The finish is long and stickily sweet, with a little alcohol warming. Overall, this is surprisingly good, for an American made Quadrupel.

On tap @ Trapeeze Pub - Pours dark brown with smaller head. Nose of dark fruits and molasses. Taste is of dark ripe fruit with brown sugar with a cognac quality. Fairly complex. The booze was only moderately hidden. This may very well be the biggest beer coming out of Georgia at the moment. Quite good.

This is a really nice beer. Chocolate malt and a nice cocoa texture. Some prune and molasses in the aroma. Some vanilla favors. Nicely complex and very drinkable. Impressed by the local guys.

Growler from Hop City Atlanta. Pours dark brown with bubbly carbonation on the glass and a small tan head. Smoky, malty nose with a hint of spiciness. Taste is very sweet with a malty richness and a background of chocolate and spiciness. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming. A bit sticky and gooey-but in a good way. One of better American quads I’ve had.

Growler from The Beer Growler. Pours dark brown, little to no head. Full-bodied, good mouth feel. Lots of dark fruit (raisin, prune, etc) gives the beer a lot of sweetness, also molasses, brown sugar. Slight vinous quality. Just a tad boozy, but not bad for such a big beer. Finish is a little bready. Very tasty, if not something that I could drink lots of in one sitting.

Surpringly sweet here. Lots of caramel and nuts in this one. I’d like this a lot more if it weren’t so sweet.
