luckygirl (1212), Longmont, Colorado, USA Mar 9, 2008 Draught at the brewery. FDGD 08. Beer is very dark brown. Head is small, tan, creamy/frothy, mostly and quickly diminishing, ultimately lasting. Specks of lacing on the glass. The aroma is malty with light notes of roasted grain, cooked oatmeal, coffee; Hoppy with trace pine/resin notes; Yeasty with a light note of dough. The flavor is moderately acidic, moderately bitter, lightly sweet with a long, moderately-to-heavily, repellingly acidic finish. The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.
acrdz (4376), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pint at the brewery. Hard to guess that this is an oatmeal stout not told in advance. Heavy roast in the nose comes across like dark roast coffee, with a greenness, a note of dark, charred overripe plums, and a crunchy sort of granola smell and flavor - I guess that’s the oatmeal. Moderate astringency and typically weak body - seen in nearly everything from this brewery - take away from what would otherwise be a fairly nice straightforward hearty stout.
