A very full-bodied oatmeal stout with five different roasted malts and a thick, creamy texture-a meal in a glass!

12oz can... murky black with a light tan head, gone quickly... aroma is boring and light, chocolate, roast... really boring taste, ash at first, with a hint of chocolate... blah, not worth having again

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2011 Not as good as I expected out of the can, but it was warm, fresh off the shelf, so Iíll let íem chill this evening and crack another tonight. After a second helping, I take back most of what I said above, this beer is a real wonder. Great job all around!

12 oz can. It pours a thick, dark black with a frothy tan head that is short-lived and leaves a bit of lacing. The smell is moderately roasty with hints of caramel, cocoa, smoke, malt, and alcohol. The smell could be heavier though. The flavor is decent. It has a noticeable roasty flavor along with some basic white sugar. It is noticeably thin though which detracts a lot from it. Tasted on 3/9/11 from a 12oz can purchased at Binnyís Lincoln Park. Pours opaque deep brown, almost black, with a thick brown head that slowly recedes to a nice collar of lace, leaving lace along the inside of the glass. The nose is dark malt, smokey, chocolate, espresso, and a bit of nuttiness. The flavor is molasses and dark malt up front, moving to dark chocolate, espresso, light vanilla, burnt bitterness, and a bit of smoke. The body is full with light carbonation and a long dark roast and smokey finish.

Blah. A boring and bland stout. Aroma was weak. A slight alcohol presence with a hint of dark chocolate. Pour was a flat black with a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was weak and watery. Not much flavor unless you get a mouthful and even then itís weak. Coffee, dark roasted malt and not much else. Turns to water mid swallow. Very light carbonation that leaves quickly.

12oz. Can (at 6%ABV per the can): Aroma of hard roasted malt, roasted grain, light lactose, slight chocolate, and some oats. Poured pitch black in color with a small, brown head that disappeared quickly. Opaque. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of roasted malt, lactose, slight caramel, grain, chocolate, and some cream. Medium body. Thin, then lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Roasted malt, grain, chocolate, lactose, and caramel finish is slightly dry.

This is a very deep garnet red, almost completely black and opaque. The head is small but finely bubbled and long lasting. Nose is of sweetened coffee and something about it implies an acidity that implies cherries. Palate is medium bodied and slightly oily but the flavor is not quite full enough to make the most of it. This isnít a bad stout but itís a little plain, just mild roasty flavors, a slight hint of tartness and some fruitiness. Perhaps it is slightly above average for the style.

This Wild Onion effectively pops my Wild (Onion) Cherry, and man, do I love cans these days (and not just your motherís). The pour here is huge dark blackish brown with 2-finger frothy tan head. The nose is rich patent malt, roasty, cacao, hops, mild rauchy. Tastes creamy, black patent malty, late hoppy, with a medium palate, a smooth finish, and an overall uplifting character about it. Good.
