3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml swing top bottle poured a deep reddish brown color with a finger of light tan head with some spotted lacing. Aroma is caramel and floral hops with a bit of smoke. Taste is malty sweet with a hint of smoke and a mild hop bitterness in the finish. This is a nice representation of the style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at home, out of my trusty Maudite glass. Pours clear mahogany, thin of-white head, spotty/poor lacing. Nose is caramel, nuts, wood, a rather flinty/smoky note here as well, which grows exponentially as the beer opens up. A certain "clean cardboard" aroma here as well. Flavours are moderately smoky, with plenty of nuttiness and a soapy hop character throughout. Clean finish. A rather interesting brew.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Not bad, but considering how spectacular Wild Rose’s seasonals get, this one is a let down. Mildy hoppy, and a bit of the warmth of their brown ale up front. The novelty wears off pretty quickly, and you realize you’d rather be drinking their wonderful IPA or Brown.

500ml flip-top bottle. Pours a very dark red with a lasting tan head. Aroma is very malty, with notes of nuts an chocolate. Taste: very malty, notes of caramel, chocholate, and nuts, with a little bit of floral hops, mild bitterness. Finish is malty, with a little bit of floral hop bitterness. This one is very good, I wish they made it a regular. Note: Bottle says 5.0% ABV.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Single bottle purchased from Co-op Liquor store in Calgary, AB on April 4th, 2011. Colour: Dark brown with low grey-tinted head. Nose: Glassy and metallic overtone, almond, raw yam. Let it sit a little...then a good swirling brought out some roast malt and salt. Taste: Light sweet, medium bitter, medium-light sour. A delisciously neat combination of dry bitterness and tangy sour. Hints of broccoli, walnut, pomelo.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured out a very dark brown brew with a sizeable and long lasting light tan head. Nice fresh aroma of some fruit and just a ton of malts: toasty roasty goodness, chocolate, wet rusty metal??? I have no idea what that could mean. I like the aroma all the way through the bottle so far. The taste is a mix of light herbal notes upfront and, well, it turns out all the way through and no end to the maltiness, chocolateish and light roast. Nothing fancy here. I do like the german hops. Ample soft carbonation, long lingering drying bitterness. A simple beer that is very tasty and a fulfilling drinking experience.

500ml brown flip top. Dark red-brown pour with a compact slight rocky off white head. Malty nose, hints of chocolate and light roastiness. Flavour has chocolate malts and roasty iron like notes. Slight noble hop note, bitterness is pretty low. Finishes a bit tangy and roasty/earthy. Medium body, creamy texture, good smoothness, well integrated carbonation. Very drinkable, pretty nice all around.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, shared with Jeff and compared directly with DDC La Rescousse. This beer came out poorer for the comparison. On the one hand it has a lighter fruitier character with a similar caramel malt base. On the other hand, it had a much lighter body and thinner mouthfeel, with nowhere near the malt base that the DDC brew had in comparison. This was okay, just weak and thin.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Great looking glass of beer. Very dark in my new Duvel glass with a permanent yellow-brown foam. Crisp red highlights shine through a clean liquid when held to the light. Not the light from the biggest full moon in 20 years because snow is moving in. Thick roasted malt aroma with strong chocolate notes. Thick creamy mouthfeel. Tastes like a strong dark brown ale. Lots of roasted flavour with some chocolate and even nuts. Not sure how close they have got to an Alt but I would gladly trade it for the current Wild Rose Brown if at the same price point. A small trace of sourness and coffee appear in the finish halfway through the pint.
