A dark ruby red-brown ale with a distinctive coffee-chocolate character. Don't let the dark color and robust flavor fool you--it's a medium bodied beer with a clean finish.

Bottle. Deep ruby-brown with a wispy off-white head. Light but appealing aroma of toasted malt and mild cocoa. Thinner body that I like in the style, but still OK. Flavour is nice a straightforward - toasted malt, a bit of caramel and hazelnut, moderately dry finish with a mellow bitterness. A decent brown.

Nice, deep chestnut brown. Whitish head, short lived, Light rim of head left behind. Toasty, slightly sweet malts. Flavour is similar. The malts are the primary focus here, and it works out quite nicely. A touch of breadiness. A somewhat cola-like quality in flavour... or like root beer? Interesting, to say the least. A bit thin in body. Carbonation is about right. This would be a good cask candidate. An easy going 5%. Very straight forward brown, done well enough, against some stiff competition.

[791-20071102] Tap @ Wild Rose (Calgary, AB). Malty chocolate aroma. Clear, dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head and nice lacing. Brown hay malt flavour with a bit of basketball plastic. Medium body. Noticeable alcohol, a little boring.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2007 341ml brown bottle. Chestnut brown coloured with a short lived off white head. Aroma is chocolatey, light roasted notes and toffee, maybe even a hint of coffee. Malt forward beer, can find little trace of hops. Flavour again reveals chocolate and coffee, the coffee character intensifies in the finish. Dry with some nutty, earthy, and cocoa aftertastes. Medium body, carbonation seemed a bit weak. Not bad as a session beer.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2012 Draft at the brewery taproom; Very, very dark brown with a thin resilient head. This is one of the best beer aromas Iíve experienced ... rich and sweet, almost chocolatey ... wow, this is also richly flavored. Subtley chocolatey. Full and malty with an excellent body. Only a light sweet bite (too many browns thurn out too sweet). I do believe this may be the best brown ale Iíve ever had! Donít get some of the other ratings here! (#2871, 5/13/2007)
