COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark ruby red-brown ale with a distinctive coffee-chocolate character. Don't let the dark color and robust flavor fool you--it's a medium bodied beer with a clean finish.

Nose is off pine nuts, roasted malt & barley. An inviting deep nut brown appearence true to the beers name. A firmly planted nut abundunt flavor from start to finish, getting stronger as you go. Remarkable. Also a hint of dark chocolate! A standard palate with minimul fizz and head. Great stuff.

Bottled sample via rudge75. Medium brown in colour with average carbonation. Aromas of mild fruit and caramel. Strikes a fairly good balance in the mouth with more caramel notes integrating with some nut and dry roasted grain flavors. It has a somewhat unimpressive watery body and a short finish. A pretty standard brown ale.

This is best served on tap. Great brown ale with excellent dark clor and nutty flavour. Another great Calgary beer. One of my top picks for local brews.

Lubiere (10139) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 9, 2007
A reddish brown ale with a thin dissipating off white head. In aroma, strong diacetyl with light sulfury notes...and this is relatively fresh. In mouth, a sourish brew with lacvtic notes, light burned roasted nuts, but rather unimpressed, another bad batch from WR. 330 mL bottle from Presario.

Clear nut brown, rich choco-caramel aromas. same on the palate with a nutty accent. Decent enough.

Bottle - You have got to get this stuff fresh as it makes all the difference in the world with this beer in particular. I am going to rate the fresh beer I tasted not the horrible old crap that I drained down my sink. Pours out ruby brown with a very small beige head. Smells sweet choco puff. mmm breakfast. The flavor is thin and coco and sugary (with flemish like funk when past itís prime) that when fresh is almost like a rose flavor. Interesting only if you can sample to see if it Jekle or Hyde on tap.

Like a cross between pancake batter and cherry Dimetapp. Sorry, thatís all my notes say.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of jerc. Pours a slightly hazy dark reddish-brown with a small off-white head. For some reason it smells great from the bottle and not-so-great from the glass. Odd. The aroma from the bottle has a nice sweet cocoa smell but from the glass it smells sour and slightly off. Iíll be nice and rate it closer to the bottle smell. The flavour of lightly roasted malt and nuts also has an unpleasant sourness to it. Thin bodied. Quite the dissapointment.

1L bottle, shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, Hogtown Harry - courtesy of blankboy. Sour brown aroma, bubbly white head. From the bottle itself though, it smells like sweet chocolate cake. Go figure, Iíll split the difference in fairness I guess. A lot of sweetness in taste, but thereís a hovering sourness that just kills any enjoyment. I wonder if it is intentional. Thin, weak - a substandard brown. Tough to follow the Alaskan Smoked Porter I guess.

330 ml bottle courtesy of Presario. Clear brown pour with a thin offwhite head. Aroma of dark malt and brown sugar. The flavor is kind of dull, some dark malt, coacoa and brown sugar but it feels boring, the finish is slightly bitter. The body is light to medium with an oily texture and low carbonation. Iím not a big fan of brown ales but there are some examples that I find interesting, this one however isnít bad but itís definitely not captivating.
