4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at Craft Beer Market in Calgary. Pours thick deep brown/black, quite opaque, but the lighting here is very soft. 2-finger, quite persistent dark tan head; fantastic lacing. Nose is milk chocolate, black cherries, really a simple nose, but a fantastically pleasing one. In the mouth, the carbonation is creamy and rich, no doubt the effect of the cask, but lovely nonetheless. Thick and milkshakey, with lots of chocolate covered cherries. No complaints.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased from Co-op Liqour store on Macleod Trail near Heritage Dr. Colour is a unique blend of purple and black. Nose: Cherry, pine embers, darkly roasted coffee beans, leather coat, wet forestt, plum cake. Huge nose with layers and layers of character. Taste: Medium sweet, medium bitter, light sour. Cherry is not as abundant as I expected but is present. Doses of fruit cake and freshly roasted coffee beans flirt about but are annoyingly accompanied by a slight skunk note. Slick and well structured palate.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the brewpub, served in a stemless wine glass. Pours black with a small tan head. The head fades quickly, leaving a small amount of fine lace. The nose has notes of roasted malts with espresso, chocolate and cherry. The flavour is a bit sweet up front, but it dries out before becoming slightly sour with cherry notes towards the finish. The finish is moderate in length with cherries. It is medium in body with a slightly dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice cherry porter, but is somewhat simple. The cherries complement the roasted malts nicely. 2010-11-14

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
1 Liter swingtop. Pours jet black with a bubbly mocha head that leaves a decent lace. Surprisingly light on the cherries in the nose with some nice roasted coffee and chocolate notes coming through with a little alcohol. Much less interesting in the mouth. There’s a little cherry and milk chocolate and a little bitter twang to the finish but ultimately uninteresting.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours very dark brown, almost black, thin beige slightly pink head. Rich roasted aroma. flavour is very bold and dominated by roasted malts. there is a slightly tangy cherry fla vour in the start and the finish. usually i find a fruit porter too sweet and overwhelming. but this is a perfectly balanced work of art.

3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Smells like deep dark woods with malt and cherries hiding in there somewhere, think and dark, like if u were blind and your sense of smell was heightened. Very dark, some head on pour but it fades quickly, lacing lasts throughout. Thick on malt flavour as in the aroma, fades away fairly streadily, leaving the cherry flavour after it goes down. As you drink more you taste more of a roast malt than a cherry flavour. Very clean tasting for the darkness of the beer, it comes off your tounge very quickly, no lingering or thickness in the mouth. A nice thick brew, but thins out too quick.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice looking one liter flip top bottle complete with cherries hanging from a ribbon around the neck of the bottle. Brew pours pretty much black with a thick creamy cap that reduced to a skiff after a couple of min, the edges of the glass turned ruby red when held to the light. Aroma was milder than I expected it to be cherries, some warm alcohol, and roast malts come through but not all that strongly. Taste is also simple and mild the cherry taste comes through but its not overpowering the taste like some others of this same style. Mostly non aggressive roasted malts hints of coffee and chocolate and finishes sort of chalky I guess. Very drinkable brew, it doesn’t overpower you and it leaves you wanting more I would easily drink this again.
