3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cirrhosis (1073) - Edmonton, Alberta, - MAY 7, 2012Clear amber body with tons of massive chunks a tall white crown that floats on top. Yum aroma!!! I’m really digging this Belgian IPA style, never had a bad one. Bret, wheat, banana, hops, grape fruit, mild ginger....what doesn’t this aroma have??? Aroma even has pepper, just wish it was stronger. Taste is basically the same but leans more toward the IPA side. Ginger, lemon, bret, peppery yum. Smooth malt, bitter nondescript finish. I could drink this all day long.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 cfrancis (1769) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 18, 2012
Thanks to Reimer for this. Pours a darkened golden amber with a moderate frothy white head. Aroma is mix of belgian yeast and earthy hops. Taste is big belgian yeast mouthfeel and earthy hop flavours. Nice beer
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Glouglouburp (5562) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 18, 2012
In short: A very yeasty IPA with a harsh spiciness. Meh
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed relatively fresh less than 2 months after first rating
The look: Cloudy rusty body, lots of particles, medium beige head with good retention, lots of lacings on the glass
In long: Nose has plenty of phenolic and fruity yeast esters and citrusy hops (mostly oranges) with a strong spicy character. Taste is doughy chewy malts in a yeast soup. The strong yeast presence create some kind of doughy-powdery sensation like. In mouth the harsh spiciness of the hops dominate its citrusy character. The beer spicy character (and it seems both yeast and hop related) is a bit too much and includes white-pepper, cloves, coriander, orange peels, more… Rather harsh. I drank the full bomber because this style of beer is easy to drink, but objectively speaking this is a flawed beer. And here we go again, another few hours I wasted today entering a bunch of beer ratings, I need to take a break from ratebeer, I’m not going to, I’m just saying I need to.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Narnad (1340) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - JUL 7, 2012
Cloudy orange brown color with a dense, tall and creamy off-white head. Aroma has a strong Belgian yeasty spice to the nose, full of clove and just a touch of citrus hops to the nose. Flavor has a strong clove flavor early, some mild fruitiness in the middle and a very light orange and grapefruit citrus at the finish. Carbonation is very fine with a high rate of dispersion. Body is modest with a slight dryness to the brew. Overall it’s a good brew but the combination of clove and spice flavor imparted by the yeast make it a bit hard to find the hops. Clove is a tad bit too strong in my opinion but still an enjoyable beer.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dfearnley (319) - Alberta, CANADA - JUN 16, 2012
650mL bottle to stange glass
Smells of Belgian yeast, banana, and a little spice. It pours a cloudy amber with an decent off white head. The taste is bready and bitter but I don't get much else. The bitterness is overpowering and ruins any subtle notes.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ferris (491) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 16, 2012
Bottle - Smells like a Belgian Ale, yeasty sweet but no alcohol or hops. Hazy orange with a thick long lasting head. Sweet, orange peel, hop bitterness, and a bit of alchohol at the end. Much better Belgian IPA’s out there, hops impart bitterness but little flavor.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 gramity (1055) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 6, 2012
Pours out somewhat cloudy marmalade/light amber hue. Tall creamy off-white head that settles to a dense cap and leaves intricate trails of lattice-like lacing in its wake.
Toasty bread and spicy yeast on the nose, dry leafy hops with intermittent spikes of bright citrus hops.
Leafy hops, bready malt and a yeasty twang start out the flavour, spicy phenols in the middle, while things finish on a grapefruit citrus hop note.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 northropfrye (1352) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - MAY 21, 2012
Citrusy hop aroma, not crazy bitter but it’s definitely there. Well balanced with sweet malts. A nice Belgian style IPA.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 piscator34 (1798) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - MAY 16, 2012
On draft at Beer Revolution. Orangey gold in colour with medium carbonation. Hop forward aromas of orange, pineapple, and herbs, along with a faint tropical note. A bit of malt and pine sap in the mouth, but the citrus hops and tropical yeast notes are still strong here too. Firm bitterness. I thought it would be more "Belgian" than this, but it;s still quite drinkable as is.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DuffMan (5194) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 14, 2012
Bottle, shared with Parksy. Hazy bright orange amber with a lasting lacy white head. Aroma is hoppy and spicy and sweet, very inviting. Flavours of citrus, light conifer, hard candy, and a nice spiciness from the Belgian yeast. Solid brew, very enjoyable and well balanced. One for summer sessions!
