Royal 100 is a celebratory beer that was brewed by Wild Rose specifically for the Mount Royal Centennial. With a reddish hue and a well balanced flavour, this beer is sure to be a highlight of the celebrations. Brewed with Canadian malted barley and wheat, Royal 100 has been perfectly dry hopped with Ö you guessed it, Centennial hops!

On tap at the WRB taproom. Amber, thin white head. Citrus aroma. Tastes of a dry hopped ale, notes of citrus and pine, with a moderate malt u.dertone. Finishes with an earthy bitterness. Quite good...

March 4, 2011 - with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel: 1litre swing-top bottle courtesy of gregclow. Clear bright amber with smallish creamy off-white head (not a lot of bubbling going on in the glass). Grainy aroma, slight sweet fruit character, but also a bit off-puttingly vegetal. Taste is somewhat dry, grainy .... boring, really; dried flowers? meh. Average body, mild carbonation, mercifully quick-finishing with a slightly unpleasant linger to it. Dull, at best.

750ml swingtop bottle pours a clear deep amber color with a finger and a half of off-white head with some nice retention settling to some nice lacing. Aroma is floral and citrus hops. Taste is citrusy hop bitterness which is not too overwhelming balanced nicely with a malty sweetness. In the finish the citrus fades to a earthy hop note. I really enjoyed this one as it delivered more than I was expecting.

Ooops.. where the hell was this hiding in the beerium? My guess is behind much better beers. Poured out a crystal clear amber a bit on the dull side but once again, maybe itís the light in the room. Big bubbly light tan head that leaves a decent mess and settles as a coverage. Lemony peach nose, mild yet pleasant malt mix of cereals and caramel. This has a nice, soft and smooth aroma that is pretty good. Decent flavours of bitter goodness that fades giving me a watery impression, lemon, bit of nectarine, cereals, quite malty and has a bright taste, if that makes any sense. Maybe that is the taste of a faceless citrus and some sort of spice. some caramel as well but itís more of a general flavour - not sure if Iíve said that before. What I am not a fan of is what I would consider is over carbonation as every sip is just too gassy and Iím 2/3rds into the bottle and Iím still getting punished. Itís a mellow beer that hides behind a short lived blast of citrus bitterness and lingering peach and rrgf maybe. I guess it is growing on me - very possible that my nonstop indulgence in huge beers is killing my love of 5% beers. Or not. This gets waaaay better after sitting forever. If I reviewed it at room temperature it may have fared better but why did I have to wait? A bit overpriced and lacking anything special. Overall a decent brew that is annoyingly over carbonated.

Big swingtop bottle shared with my brother- in-law MattKool, who appropriately is a Mount Royal alumnus. Nice red amber pour with a thick off white head that shows long retention and leaves heavy lacing. This looks unexpectedly impressive. Nice floral aromatics playing off toasty malt make this a really a nicely flavored amber. Lot of lackluster reviews on this had lowered my expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. No record breaking complexity, but weíre talking about an amber ale here. I would drink more of this-- nice for a session.

Bottle [1L] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- c/o GregClow. Pours a hazy amber with an average size diminishing fizzy white head. Aroma is toasted malt along with really light hops, grain and some toffee. Flavour is malty along with some fruit, very light hops, cardboard and toffee. Average bodied. Meh, just O.K.

[3624-20110304] 1L bottle. Light plastic malt aroma with hints of lightly toasted wet cardboard. Slightly hazy, orange amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Mild lightly toasted malts flavour has a lingering odd mould characteristic. Medium body. Average. (6/3/6+/3/13) 3.1-

Thanks to Gregclow. Appearance: ruby red, thick snow white head. Aroma: grass and bran, malt & cardboard. Flavour: Lightly grassy, corn husk, light vanilla with damp cardboard, fizzy hay like finish.

Gorgeous colour, with a blend of red, orange, brown. Nose: Milk chocolate, blanched hazelnuts, ripe yeast, oatmeal cookies. Taste: Flowery at first, then moves in to roasted almond and perfume, finishing with crisp but light hop. Finish is gets more and more biting as you go. Decent but not spectacular. Mouth feel is light and thin up front but gets fizzy and thick late.
