Draft at the source. Deep maroon color. Aroma of coffee groudns and light fruit. Taste has more roasty coffee and berries. Interesting combination.

Pours the deepest prune into the glass, with a huge tan head that lasts, leaving pocked thick lacing. The nose is of strawberrry jam. Flavors have the strawberry tartness, with an unbalanced malt backbone, especially for such a malt-heavy brew like a schwarzbier. This leaves the palate a bit thin and citric, lacking some of the great contingencies that make up a substantial body. There are certain aspects of it that I actually do enjoy, but overall, I think it misses the mark on its intent.

Bottle. Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is roasted malt with tart berry notes and chocolate covered strawberries. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate covered strawberries, soft berry notes and hints of coffee. Body is medium with a dense, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more big roasted malt notes, chocolate covered strawberries, tart berries, earthy notes and light coffee.

A dessert beer. Lots of caramel and mild cocoa with some strawberry on the nose and at the end of the sip. Tried this at the DC beerfest with Jess, Mark, and Matt in 2014.

Bottle. This beer is just about everything you’d expect from the name and very detailed description. Red-tinged black with otherwise normal "schwartz" visuals. The aroma is pretty straight forward ... a bit of roasty malt to be sure ... but that berry thing’s in there too. There’s a definite strawberry character up front in this. And there’s nothing technically wrong with it. But it’s a niche. Maybe a beer to enjoy with some chocolate cake ... (#5519, 5/20/2014)

Dark brown pour with light head. Sweet berry aroma dominates. Sweet very berry flavor. Medium body with good carbonation. No doubt there are strawberries here. good beer

On draft at the Mad Fox Maibock festival 2014. Pours a clear dark cola brown with a beige head. Somewhat dank aroma. Flavors of roasted chestnuts with a hint of strawberry. Soft carbonation. Mellow finish.

Not necessarily great. Seems like an ok idea actually but that’s just because I don’t usually like Schwarzbiers. Pours dark brown with ok head and lacing. Some roast, some strawberry. On tap at DC Beer Festival.

3/23/2014. 22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of light roasted malt. The strawberries do not add much if anything. This is more a traditional schwartzbier. Nice malty flavors with hints of chocolate.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown, almost black color with a thin and quickly disappearing light brown head. Aroma is mostly dark roasted malts, with a hint of strawberry sweetness. Flavor has a bit more balance to the roasted burnt malts and strawberry character. Lighter in body with a mild lingering burnt malt. Not too shabby.
