Toffee, nutty aromas, coffee, and subtle cocoa on the nose. Appearance is ruby-brown with a mostly lasting, off-white head. Tastes of dry, roasty flavors. Medium body, low carbonation, and a roasty, dry, malty finish.

Nice crisp deep brown coloured body with a thin, half a centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of toffee, clay, alcohol and bunches of nuts - not much else - fairly muted. Medium-bodied; Strong nutty flavour with some toasted malt, toffee and a little earthy flavour tucked in. Aftertaste is fairly one-dimensional with caramel and earth the primary players. Overall, a decent beer with a rather simple flavour and no real surprises throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 22-December-2013 for US$2.39 sampled at home in Washington on 27-March-2014. My can also lists the ABV at 5.7%.

Serving: Draft at Leesburg Brewing Company. It pours a nice ruddy color with a short lived, light tan head. Nutty, earthy, and rotting leaves in the nose. Straight caramel and a light earthiness on the tongue. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Decent.

DiarmaidBHK (3466) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 16, 2012
Draft at capital ale house Harrisonburg. Pours brown with an inch of khaki foam which leaves some lacing. Not much on the nose. Caramel and toffee notes on the tongue. Not a ton of smokiness though. Clean finisher. Solid but nothing outstanding.

Velkyal (296) - Gordonsville, Virginia, USA - APR 28, 2012
Deep dark amber pour, a slightly off-white head. The aroma is mostly phenolic whiskyesque, and not much besides. Taste is similar, notes of whisky, vanilla and trace of peat. Not a Scottish ale as a Scotsman understands it.
