omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 8, 2008 Draught at Wilde Rose-Keller, Bamberg. Probably golden, small head. Grassy breasy nose. Dry and crisp, yet rounded. Streamlined with agreeable levels of bitterness. Refreshing and pleasant. Ernest (4197), Boulder, Colorado, USA Feb 14, 2008 Draught, Wilde Rose, Bamberg.
Head is mostly lasting.
Body is yellow.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread/grain), moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), with a note of minerals.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation.
Had this on a day when the brewpub was technically closed (well, the door was open...). Accidentally crashed a private birthday party for the owner (or was it head brewer? the older portly fellow on the far right of the brewery website pic) of the place, but he personally invited me to stay and drink/eat as long as I wanted. Friendliest people ever! Very aromatic, balanced, and clean pils...absolutely delicious, and probably an extremely fresh batch for the party. And no, the graciousness of the family didn’t affect my rating...it really was this good. MiP (4927), Flensburg, Germany Aug 15, 2006 Draught. Clear golden colour. Quite big, stable white head. Quite flat, been standing around for a while? Does not seem optimally served. The flavour is very mild, low bitterness. MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 23, 2006 Impression in the shade of the keller:
-Generous foam lasts atop the krug, never dying.
-A citrusy haystack conveys its freshness to the nose, diluted into refreshment.
-Carbonation’s a little too much for this one.
-A menthol hop aftertaste releases the tongue after a few seconds of pleasure.
-Grass appears in the aroma after a while, laying the ground for the oncoming floral fruitiness.
-Apart from the haystack, malt is of few consequences.
-A straightforward example, bursting with flavor, yet eminently drinkable.
On tap at the Wilde Rose Keller, Bamberg. rauchbier (2870), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Oct 4, 2004 Tap, at Wilde Rose Keller, Bamberg. Straw gold, white head and good condition. Some gentle hop layered over grainy malt in the nose, low malt and delicate pilsner hoppiness in the mouth. Some lingering hop bitterness. Apparently specially brewed for the Wilde Rose Keller and Hotel by Maisel (along with the Kellerbier and the Bock), but how much difference there is between the Wilde Rose and the Maisel recipes is unknown.
