3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6950) - Straßgiech, Bavaria, GERMANY - DEC 18, 2012
draft at Wilde Rose Bamberg.
super turbid and cloudy orange body with a rocky white head. calcium / mineral nose with light bacterial armpit sweat notes (light enough to be suitable and well-placed in the nose, if you believe that). lots of gummy banana and orange citrus juice and acid in the nose as well. wondrously soft approach with slow-growing acid across the back: prickly, zesty and vibrant but tart juice / pulp / pith with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. though a bit sludgy and yeasty it’s very soft and nimble.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blipp (4784) - Newark, New Jersey, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Draft. Pours hazy orange gold with a white head. Wheaty, fruity, light spiciness, some soft minerally notes. Not in-your-face, just a well executed hefe.

Tap at the Gasthof. Ugly gradient orange pour with a lovely rocky off-white head. Heavy yeast and wheat nose, not much else in the mouth, some light banana character. Medium body, smooth.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TAR (2346) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - JAN 3, 2012
Draught @ Gasthof Wilde Rose: Amber gold. Thick cap of stark-white foam shows stellar retention. Outstandingly elegant nose of cookie malt, banana cream pie, cantaloupe, and vanilla cake. Perfectly measured clove and bubblegum in the background. Creamy carbonation has a feathery weightlessness. Fresh pineapple-acid delicacies meld with fluffy creamed banana and a wonderfully polished contrast of crisp cookie malt and slicker, beefier wheat. Simultaneously satiating and appetizing as it showcases both the sweetness and texture of pureed bananas swirled with fluffy buttercream. Some mineralic grip provides lift and gently balances the residual sweetness. As in the aroma, the esters are carefully calculated, with merely a dab of clove and gum exuding. Dryish, immaculately attenuated conclusion features a twinge of peppery-clove sass amid a hefty wheat backdrop which is lightened by a toasty, cookielike malt edge. Here’s a weissbier that, with all it finespun nuances coupled with spellbinding complexity, is equally quaffable as it is contemplative. Another winner from a seemingly unheralded brewery.

Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation.
A truly wonderful, vibrant, luscious rendition. I rarely get excited about weissbier, but this one was an eye-opener.

(Rating #3847)

My Bottom Line :
Within this lean Weizenbier grows a veritable flower and fruit garden, with perfumes of roses, lavender, plantanes and citrus, a distinctive flavor profile which happens to be quite refreshing.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sturdy sheet of foam covers the cloudy golden.
-Wheat flavors add to the complexity.
-This is a polished example of a style which is often raw in its yeast apport.
-The frothy effervescence and low level of residual sugars make for high drinkability.
On tap at the keller.

Sampled during Bamberg trip 2011. This one on tap at the beergarden. Hazy yellow with a thick white head. Sweet mild banana aroma, with some dust and citrus. Wheaty flavor again with a fruity finish.
