Poured from can into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown-mahogany color with a one finger fizzy head of tan colored foam. The head has a light level of retention, fading quite fast to leave a little bit of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is huge of a caramel and molasses smell mixed with a good showing of some roasted malt. Along with these smells comes some lighter dark fruit smells and a bit of wheat. Taste – The taste begins with a strong flavor of molasses, caramel and brown sugar mixed with some lighter notes of roasted malt and a bit of wheat. As the taste advances the roasted malt initially gets stronger only to fade a little bit at the end. All the while the wheat tastes grow slightly stronger as the taste advances to the end. Along with the wheat growing stronger, comes some darker fruit tastes of cherry and plum. With a further increase in the sweeter sugar tastes, one is left with a rather sweet, moderately dark, and thick taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the rich sweet flavors of the brew the feel is rather nice and creates a great mouth coating feel. Overall – This was actually a rather nice doppelbock in my opinion. It wasn’t quite as cloyingly sweet as many doppelbocks come off as, and instead it was robust in flavor, but still rather drinkable overall. A good one to try.

16oz can pours with a mahogany colored body that supports an extremely brief bubble or two of a head. The aroma offers up malts, caramel malts, a bit of coffee and then sour mash off notes. The taste is a mix of caramel malts, lightly roasted malts, a dash of coffee and sour funky tart badness. Man! This stuff is off and that’s two in a row for me from this brewery. The sink drain is where this is heading next.
