Pours a jet black with large robust tan head. Roasty coffee and chocolate aroma. Smooth, liquid chocolate. Nice mild bitter finish. Creamy palate. An excellent beer, every bit as satisfying as the St. Ambrose oatmeal stout.

[815-20071105] Tap @ Wildwood (Calgary, AB). Coffee malt dark roast aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy light tan head. Bit of floral roasted malt and a nice mild grainy aftertaste. Medium-full body is a little flat. Nice potential.

Had a pre-release sample glass with jerc and mabel when they came through town but waited for a full pint to rate. Full inch of lasting dark cream head and lace on black beer. Thick chocolate aroma reminds me of Jello milk pudding. Full body and full flavour. Starts out with dark milk chocolate which morphs into a strong lasting bitter chocolate taste. Interesting wood and dusty oat qualities as well. One of my two WW favourite seasonals.

Draft at the brewpub. Black body with a creamy khaki head. (4+) Roasty malt aroma, light mocha notes. Roasty bitter flavour throughout. Lightly acidic notes at times. Smooth medium palate. (3+) Decent stout.
