Hoppy without the red ale shrilling sweetness in the middle so typical of this style. Longish firm bitterness. Other newer beers may do this better now but this is one of the first UK beers of its type. Some citric hoppiness finished by some long dominant bitterness. Pretty good reallly.

[on cask in Edinburgh] Weak, biscuity malt aroma with a slightly musty character and orange and dried fruit accents. Somewhat nutty. Clear chestnut appearance under a thin sheet. Fairly nutty toffee flavour up front followed by some fresh and dried fruit and then a bit of juniper and a complex mix of other spices. Medium body, low carbonation, nutty and slightly bitter finish.

500ml bottle picked up at Centra Colosseum in Oslo and shared with Finn back home. Deep, dark amber coloured body. Firm and lasing off-white, bubbly head. Decent lacing. Brown malts to the nose with hints of grainy chocolate. Mid-sweet dark malts added by a resin-like touch to the taste buds. Dry bittersweet ending. Slightly oily textured. Satisfying (Tromsø, 20.09.2012).
