330ml bottle. Golden color, white head, lots of lacing. Aroma is dominated by toffee, with lemon , orange and citrus pith. Taste is heavy sweet but well balanced with medium/heavy bitterness. Palate is viscous, oily, softly carbonated. Overall this is a good example of a modern strong IPA, not excessively bitter or piny.

Golden-amber color with a fair head. It’s hoppy all the way, with flowery hops and green grass flooding your senses. Then the bitter taste comes along in what I would say is a good double IPA, except for the alcohol which is quite prominent. Worth trying, especially if you like huge amounts of hops.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber. A lot of malty caramel in the aroma with some pine and grass. Taste has a lot of toffee flavours with a bitter finish. The alcohol is pretty noticeable. All in all doesn’t come close to the double ipa big hitters.

Bottle from my local Aldi. Pours pale copper. Pale enough to warrant the IPA tag. Thin, white head. Woody, piney aroma. Some dank, peachy notes. Lychee. Good bit of fruit in there. Taste is heavy with malt sweetness to start. An assertive bitterness follows. Bit hot with alcohol. Creamy carbonation and a good body. Quite chewy. Juicy finish that makes the mouth water. Too much alcohol on show here but a decent imperial IPA none-the-less

Pours cloudy amber with flat white head. Aroma of light caramel, rye, hints of citrus. Fairly bland. Taste is sweet and somewhat boozy, mild bitter finish. Body is light to medium, smooth, with soft carbonation. As double IPAs go, this one was kind of meh.

Ambrata e schiuma poco persistente, aroma poco luppolato e molto alcolico, al gusto è molto dolce (forse troppo) e un po’ sbilanciata nell’amaro e nel retrogusto. Ha la sembianze di una Scotch Ale.

ALLOVATE (2839) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 20, 2015
Hazy, orange amber with a short-lived white fluff atop. Doughy and yeasty nose with the usual suspects thrown in. Pine resin, lawn clippings, bitter herbs, cracked black pepper, sticky marmalade and toasted malt. On the palate it is similar so I’m guessing it has a hard life getting to the fridge of the bottleshop. Hops are peppery and spicy but greatly subdued. More malt driven than hops. Peaking bitterness is surrounded by bready, dry malts in the finish. Alcohol is restrained but it does come across as slightly medicinal. Not in good form so a re-rate to follow! 33cl bottle, picked up at Bierzwerg in Greven, pours with a hazy deep gold body that supports an off white head. The aroma offers up some caramel malts, spicy hops, grassy notes and then toffee. Hmm. The taste begins with smooth caramel candy and malts and then heading into spicy hops that have a moderate degree of hop bitterness. This tries to get some hop traction but the abundance of sweetness is hard to overcome.

Pours clear amber, and has a hoppy/funk smell to it on pouring. Medium carbonation, ok beer but maybe just not for me, smells i bit like feet and a little too dry without much other citrus flavours to it.
