bartlebier (2355) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - JUL 6, 2013
50cl bottle BB 05/2014, Maruhn. Expected some kind of backstory or oblique sales pitch about the penguins and their march, but they remain unexplained and fresh as the exotic ingredients in this unusual fresh stout. Light, almost thin mf, pleasant herbal and subdominant fruity hop character which turned out to might have been the coriander& orange zest, Witbier elements. Good malt balance between roast, faint chocolate + chalk = Nesquick. Subtle, almost unpresuming brew.

At a tasting, thanks troubles, deep brown colour with reddish taints, aroma of roasted barley and coffee, flavour of charred wood, burned sugar, and dark bread, quite sour with a light bitterness. Nice but too light bodied.

The_Osprey (2499) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 22, 2013
Black pour, decent foamy head endures. Mostly opaque colour but a slight red tinge. Smell is very interesting - mostly aniseed to start with some liquorice, spice and smoke coming through. Smell is complex, and it’s the best aspect of the beer. Taste is mainly chocolatey, but it’s not a very intense or complex taste. Mouthfeel is semi-foamy. Decent beer overall.
