Midnight Sun is a black porter style beer, created from a blend of malted barley, oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt, balanced with a generous handful of hops and a wee bit of fresh root ginger. We really like it and hope you do too!

Sampled @ ’Dean’s scared of beer’ testing. Pours black with a thin tan head. Malty aroma of coffee. Tastes of coffee with spicy notes

Bottle. Black colour, small brown head, very good lacing. Nose is very intensive dark chocolate and coffee. Mouth is quite gentle, not too roasty, dominated by intensive liquorice. Light sweetness, light bitterness. Light carbonation, medium body. Not bad, but not the kind of porter I like.

Completely dark color, no head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, cocoa, roasted malt and ginger! Some bitterness, medium spiciness. Medium long coffee and ginger finish. Very good porter with addition of ginger. Exciting!

After a long day this was a pleasant surprise. Not as powerful as I thought it should be based on the claim, but it was within range and otherwise a great experience ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Bountiful, well-fuelled inch and a half of satin sheened, cappuccino foam atop an inky black body. Kelp and sautéed nori slivers greet the nose with underlying hints of roasted carob, roasted mushroom, Marmite and kecap manis - interesting!
And theni it’s gone. Chalky, carbonate palate; quite soft and mellow with little carbonation and a smooth finish. Again the nori dominates with enough roast, bitter burnt malts to crack the code. Length is all roasted, charred malts, but so subdued. Feels restrained. Hops and ginger didn’t make the party. Average stuff! (50cL, BBE 03/15, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Poured from 500mL bottle (best before June 2015). Nearly black with full tan head. Aroma of light chocolate, soy sauce, and vegetable. Taste starts sweet malty lactose with mild licorice and a very subtle ginger undertone and noticeably becomes roast coffee with chocolate notes following the finish. The balance is quite nice and there’s some subtle complexities hidden in there, but it’s a wee bit on the thin side in terms of body for a porter.

bottle @ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Opaque black color with 2" tan head that slowly drops to a cover, streaky bands of lace. Aroma is classic peat and caramel malt. Taste is almost precisely what I think of when someone says "traditional porter." Slightly toasted caramel malt dominates the flavor with only a hint of chocolate milk showing in the palate. Bittering in the finish isn’t for show, only for balance, and works perfectly in a limited role. I wish I had purchased ten of these when I had the chance.
