Midnight Sun is a black porter style beer, created from a blend of malted barley, oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt, balanced with a generous handful of hops and a wee bit of fresh root ginger. We really like it and hope you do too!

imdownthepub (8492) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 20, 2009
Bottled, 500ml from Tesco, Banbury. Black with brown beige head. Rich and malty on the nose leading to a chocolate, coffee tasting malty beer, not as rich as the aroma but plenty to chew at. Good alcohol presence with a slightly dry, hoppy finish. A good bottled beer.

Bottle: Literally black, small beige layer; solid dry bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; distinctive - quite dry - roast-malty and fruity (blackcurrant) nose; dry roast-malty and fruity-spicy (label says: ginger) finish, followed by a lingering bitter (malty and hoppy) aftertaste. Good, spicy Porter, but the ginger-root is not really necessary......

MoritzF (7756) - Bochum, GERMANY - NOV 2, 2009
(bottle) Black coloured hue with a thick brown foamy head. Sweet, slightly milky and roasted malty aroma with notes of chocolate, mocha and ginger-spice. Sweet and mildly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roasty malty base with chocolate, coffee, herbal accents and fruity-spicy notes (ginger); moderately bitter and finally delicately sweet finish with lighter spicy notes and subtle hints of herbal hops. Nice. 02.XI.09

Bottled. A black beer with a beautiful coffee coloured head. I reckon this beer really works. The ginger comes through, heavier in the nose than in the mouth, but is an excellent balance for the oatmeal and lightly roasted coffee flavours. Smooth as silk with a spicy flourish on the end. Lovely.

500ml bottle (S. Brevinga Alus Salons, Riga)
7 Lovely rich bacony twist to a rich soft roasty aroma.
5 Super dark, nearly black, with ruby glints if you hunt desperately.
7 Lovely rich roasty porter. Spicy retronasals. Love the fullness and smoothness the oats give it.
4 Full palate, maybe a little sticky, but with a taste like this you want it to stick a little. Pleasant carbonation. Pleasant spicy tingle, but not giving itself away as ginger specifically - could just be a bitter noble hop.
14 Just what the doctor ordered. Williams bottle some of the best beers in the UK, this has so little of the deadness that bottled (pasteurised) beer usually suffers from. Easy tasty session, this is meant to be drunk in pints.

Bottle. Pours black with a medium, creamy tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is light roast malt, chocolate, dark fruity esters and earthy notes. Flavor is malt dominant, chocolate, faint hops and bitterness, light esters and a sweet finish. Light body and warmth, medium carbonation.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Tesco.
My lovely mrs spotted this on the shelves earlier so we are now sharing it. I have to say it’s pretty damn good. Totally black with a thin tan head that settles to a lasting film. Lovely creamy malt aroma with a load of coffee and some delicate fruity notes in the background. Good bitter chocolate in the flavour with a hint of tobacco and spice plus a bit more coffee. Solid lick of hops in the finish adds a little more bitterness and balances it out really well. Lovely creamy mouthfeel and just a solid performer all round. Nice beer folks.

Pours an opaque black with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Has a dry roasty, nutty nose with a touch of smoke and piny hops. Starts with average fullness and a light malty sweetness with some roasty smoky notes before a drier, bittersweet finish. A pretty smooth and very drinkable porter.
