Completely dark color, no head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, cocoa, roasted malt and ginger! Some bitterness, medium spiciness. Medium long coffee and ginger finish. Very good porter with addition of ginger. Exciting!

After a long day this was a pleasant surprise. Not as powerful as I thought it should be based on the claim, but it was within range and otherwise a great experience

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Bountiful, well-fuelled inch and a half of satin sheened, cappuccino foam atop an inky black body. Kelp and sautťed nori slivers greet the nose with underlying hints of roasted carob, roasted mushroom, Marmite and kecap manis - interesting!
And theni itís gone. Chalky, carbonate palate; quite soft and mellow with little carbonation and a smooth finish. Again the nori dominates with enough roast, bitter burnt malts to crack the code. Length is all roasted, charred malts, but so subdued. Feels restrained. Hops and ginger didnít make the party. Average stuff! (50cL, BBE 03/15, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 500mL bottle (best before June 2015). Nearly black with full tan head. Aroma of light chocolate, soy sauce, and vegetable. Taste starts sweet malty lactose with mild licorice and a very subtle ginger undertone and noticeably becomes roast coffee with chocolate notes following the finish. The balance is quite nice and thereís some subtle complexities hidden in there, but itís a wee bit on the thin side in terms of body for a porter.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
bottle @ Johnís Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Opaque black color with 2" tan head that slowly drops to a cover, streaky bands of lace. Aroma is classic peat and caramel malt. Taste is almost precisely what I think of when someone says "traditional porter." Slightly toasted caramel malt dominates the flavor with only a hint of chocolate milk showing in the palate. Bittering in the finish isnít for show, only for balance, and works perfectly in a limited role. I wish I had purchased ten of these when I had the chance.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the Blue Glass, Bedford, consumed at home. Dark chocolate brown, small tan head. A reasonable amount of carbonation. Liquorice and fresh espresso dominate the nose. Gorgeous taste: sweet and spicy ginger with a long slightly bitter coffee-laden finish. Satisfying bittersweet aftertaste. Wonderful in itís simplicity and balance. I do not normally think much of ginger beers, but it works very well in this recipe. Thumbs up to a fantastic brew.
