Midnight Sun is a black porter style beer, created from a blend of malted barley, oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt, balanced with a generous handful of hops and a wee bit of fresh root ginger. We really like it and hope you do too!

Pours a very dark, near black, with a dense tan head. The head lasts a long time. The aroma is strongly chocolaty, and biscuits. Taste is a great balance of spicy hoppyness and deep rich malt. Feels silky smooth in the mouth. Very highly recommended.

Roast and red wine, a bit of dark chocolate. Dry, rich and robust. I might expect a beer this full flavored to be higher in abv but fortunately at only 5.6% it can be enjoyed safely! Iím surprised to read in the description that there is an addition of ginger, I didnít taste that at all. Perhaps ginger adds to the complexity without being apparent.

bottle @ Johnís Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Opaque black color with 2" tan head that slowly drops to a cover, streaky bands of lace. Aroma is classic peat and caramel malt. Taste is almost precisely what I think of when someone says "traditional porter." Slightly toasted caramel malt dominates the flavor with only a hint of chocolate milk showing in the palate. Bittering in the finish isnít for show, only for balance, and works perfectly in a limited role. I wish I had purchased ten of these when I had the chance.

The bottle is nice looking standard Williams. Pours a minimal tanned head that is focused on the edges. A solid presence. Aromas come from tobacco, smoke, tar, chocolate, coffee, cream, wood, ginger, herbs, a roasted general feel. the body is medium and focused, with a slightly oily and slick texture. carbonation is spot on and tingly. One of my favourites from Williams, one of my favourite breweries also.

A truly delicious Scottish Porter. This one tastes heavy, but it really isnít, so if you love that taste of a stronger dark Porter or Stout, but canít keep up with the traditionally high alcohol content, this beer is perfect for you.

Superb dark porter with a smokey bitter chocolate flavour, cut through with spice. Goes really well with haggis.

500 ml bottle, best before July 2011. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch and a half frothy tan head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, oats and a bit of coffee. The aroma is nice overall, and mostly sweet. The brew tastes like roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and some ginger, along with a slight mineral taste. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit coating and has moderate carbonation. Drinkability is good, itís smooth and goes down easy. I think this is a good porter, there was just something about the taste of this brew that I liked a lot. Iíd buy this again in the future.

Fairly light aroma, but looks and flows incredibly well balanced on first glance. Tastes smooth and creamy, with a medium bitterness and sweetness. Holds its chocolatey flavour just long enough to leave you wanting more. A really lovely balanced porter, perfect with pudding. Not sure about the íspicyí claim on the bottle, but it could easily become a high calibre staple porter.

Loved this little gem. Set aside the low head retention and your in for a treat. Striking aromas of chocolate and citrus. The fullness of the flavours are of sweet chocolate, treacle and molasses. Itís not typically heavy for the style which is not a downside. Sweet hops to finish. A well structured and flavour balanced novelty. Love the cool label too.
