Profanity Stout is the first in the Williams Bros ’chapeau’ series, in which we celebrate the skills of amateur brewers whose beers we think are exceptoinal and should be made available to a wider audience. With Profanity Stout we doff our caps to Peter and Craig, the ’Balls to the Wall’ brewing duo, who developed this recipe as students on the brewing course at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University. The beer is a blend of rich coffee and intensely fruity hop aromas on a base of full velvety malty mouthfeel.

Not too happy about this one. The appearance is to thin for me. The aroma reminds me of a urinal. Okey flavor, coffee notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice long suave roasty bottle nose. Pours an easy thick head but it disappears quickly. Alcohol is well hidden & chewy. A bit thin and lacking the structure to support its potential.Despite all the accolades this beer gets I just can’t get too pumped up by it.

Bottle from vinmonopolet, Norway. Pours dark brown with a small and quickly diminishing head. Aroma is malty sweet with acidic hints of dark fruits. Mouthfeel is medium only. Flavour is at first sweet and somewhat hoppy bitter on the palate, but has a nice aftertaste of bitter and roasted coffee. Pretty good, but light for an imperial stout.

0.33l bottle. A clear deep dark brown one with a nice small dark brown kinda bubbly top. Smells really good this. Lots of burnt notes all the way. I get a little bit of both chocolate and thin licorice, but after a while it turns more hoppy. Not bad at all. It has a somewhat surprisingly light mouthfeel, not directly watery cause it’s not but it feels kinda thing. The carbonation is below average and softly prickling. Again light burned ashy flavors. It has a good bitterness all the way but it kinda kicks it up a knot in the finish. Dark and roasted, actually somewhat pleasant to drink, but no way hosé If this is an imperial stout. Lingering dark roasted aftertaste with traces of ash, salty licorice and something that almost reminds me of nuts. Imperial? 17.09.2013

Bottle. Pours a jet black body with a large-ish eggshell-hued rocky head retention. Aroma is smooth, cold coffee tones, chocolate, mild licorice and hints of herbs in the back. Taste is coffee, chocolate, licorice and hints of peppery herbal-grass tones. Dry finish, near-watery light body and soft carbonation. I’ve been more amused by less ABV stouts than this.

Very deep brown colour with a coca cola tint. The head is small, frothy, light brown and reduces quickly to a partially covering layer and some big bubbles that gather near the walls of the glass. The aroma is strong and very sweet, with roasted notes, dark caramel, coffee and dark dried fruits. Moderate to light sweet taste with a moderate bitter finish that is quite sharp, herbal, demanding and slightly unpleasant with hints of band-aid. Strong roasted flavours with sweet fruits, dark dried fruits and alcohol. Close to full body, oily texture, some dryness in the finish. A bit too demanding.

Lite lätt och citrus inslag i aromen, lite mer åt det friska hållet. Men är den inte lite för frisk och lätt för en iimperial stout.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE Feb 2015, at Punavuoren Ahven, 20131229) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, liquorice, ash and hops. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, liquorice, ash, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was ashy and bitter. A nice but bit too burnt stout.
