Profanity Stout is the first in the Williams Bros ’chapeau’ series, in which we celebrate the skills of amateur brewers whose beers we think are exceptoinal and should be made available to a wider audience. With Profanity Stout we doff our caps to Peter and Craig, the ’Balls to the Wall’ brewing duo, who developed this recipe as students on the brewing course at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University. The beer is a blend of rich coffee and intensely fruity hop aromas on a base of full velvety malty mouthfeel.

bottle 33 cc bought at tesco. Pours a nice dark brown with a creamy lightbrown head. Aroma mostly chocolate and roasted coffee upfront, but with a whiff of hoppy freshness in the background. Taste is roasted coffee with a bitter finish that lingers. Finish mostly roasted malts but with hints of hops. Medium body with medium carbonation. Not realy a stout drinker myself but I like this one.

330ml bottle from Sainsbury's. Thin tan head, very dark black body. Nose of coffee and charcoal. Flavour of coffee, mocha, a little dark fruit. Malty and bready. Some bitterness comes through in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with light carbonation. The alcohol is well hidden with no hint of the strength. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Bottle at home. Pours almost black, with small head. Aroma is mild chocolate, coffee and malt. Taste is much the same. "Lacks" in all areas compared to other Imperials I have tested recently, but I guess it’s down to personal preferences what one prefers. Still very enjoyable.

Bottle at home. The colour is clear dark brown to black colour with a small beige head. Lots of roasted malt in the aroma with coffee, hops, leather and liqour. Complex and nice. The flavour follows up with more coffee, ash and roasted malt. Slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A very nice, balanced and roasted imperial stout. Compact and a bit hoppy.

Slightly reddish black with persistent blonde head leaving lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite faint but has dark bread and mint chocolaty sweetness. Flavour is malty sweet, bready and bitter. Finish is long, a bit coffeey sour with moderate bitterness. Only medium full palate and pretty high carbonation. Nothing special, not much for an imperial stout.

Appearance: Transparent black color with a small bubbly of white head. No lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate, roasted malt and coffee.
Palate: Medium + body. Moderate sweetness, and an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Chocolate, coffee, mild fruity and mild roasted malt.
Overall impression: Did not look very nice. But the looks proved it wrong. No fancy stuff, but absolutely ok.
Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo, Norway.

Sample from bottle at the Cardinal stand at Nærbø, Ølfestivalen 2013. Coca cola colored body with a light brown film. Roasted raisins and pollen on the nose. Roasted and light acidic flavors. Medium to full body. Light watery texture. Short finish.

Bottle. Poured black, with a small beige head. Caramel, molasses, licorice, oak in the nose. First sip brings citrusy, roasty bitterness with ash, dry, roasty aftertaste. Medium light, well carbonated, no taste of alcohol. Easy to drink, good.

Color tonaca di frate con leggerissima schiuma beige. Al naso è davvero cioccolatosa. Anche in bocca conferma l’aroma di cacao fondente.

Fruits, roasted malts and coffee in the aroma. Nice dark brown to black colour with a beige head. Not as sweet as you could expect, but nice balance between sweet and bitter. medium to full body, nice carbonation. Overall a god stout i rely like.
