COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Profanity Stout is the first in the Williams Bros ’chapeau’ series, in which we celebrate the skills of amateur brewers whose beers we think are exceptoinal and should be made available to a wider audience. With Profanity Stout we doff our caps to Peter and Craig, the ’Balls to the Wall’ brewing duo, who developed this recipe as students on the brewing course at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University. The beer is a blend of rich coffee and intensely fruity hop aromas on a base of full velvety malty mouthfeel.

Bottle @ home. Aroma is roasty malt, chocolate, mocca, some liquorice, molasses and smoke. Flavour is mostly malt, some roast and liquorice, some hops in the finish. Nice stout though i expected a bit more roasty bitterness.

Pours a dark black, retains absolutely no head. Disappointingly very thin bodied, slight hoppy finish. Ok beer not amazing.

Bottle. Dark brown. Thin head. Growing coffe chocolate rich malt aroma. Body is a bit fizzy and soda-like. Like a warm fizzy coffee flavour. Kind of a Belgian Stout. A bit smoky as well.

(33 cl bottle from Fish’n’Beer; BBD: March 2013) Pours black with rich, creamy, toffee head. Good retention and lace. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee with some fruity notes. Flavour has more of the fruitiness toward the end and only a little roastedness that is not particularly acidic or bitter. Creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation, medium body and a dry finish. Pleasant.

Bottle: Thanks Milan: Medium to small airy tan head, changes slowly into a thicker light tan lacing on top of a deep dark ruby to black colored beer. The aroma’s are mostly a mix of roasted malts and chocolate with some hints of hops, smooth birned candy sweets and some creamy (light soapy) toffee tints. Taste roasted barley malts, spices, hint of roasted liquourice wood, nice hop bitter, light floral and grassy, some nettle, medium bitter, light toasted herbs. More hops than (roasted) malts. Aftertaste is hop bitter, some  smooth roasted barley malts with a gentle grass/hop/herby mixed through and some spices sprinkled on top. Low carbo, soft almost silky mouthfeel, medium to full body and a bit thin but also light creamy texture. Light roasted, good crispy bitter and a pretty refreshing, even a tad sharp-more nettle/grass kind of crispy imperial stout. I ate a piece of dark chocolTe with this beer and than it seemed the floral (ipa) hop/light stingy citrus tastes came through more than when not eating any chocolate. Interesting. Because the crispy hop taste does not taste or is not even compareble to something ipa ish.

Black with a red hue and a great little head that leaves pretty lacing and sticks around for a while. Smells of super sticky pine resin hops with a great balance of Malt in the backround. Taste begins with a a muted combo of both roasted malt and hops, then the hop presence increases and you taste some pine and smoke. It ends quite dry and sticky Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation that feels light on the palate. Overall a nice really hoppy stout that is easy to drink and not overpowering in the least. Will be picking up a couple more.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours pitch black with a big tan head and an aroma of sweet cherries, malts, toffee, licorice, coffee, and cigar smoke. The taste is mainly bitter, with notes of roasted malts, hops, dark chocolate and some sweeter notes of toffee and maybe brown sugar. A really nice beer!

I love to read how different are some reviews from the others. I’ll describe this beer comparing and contrasting my opinion to some adjectives I noticed here. Ok, I believe everyone agree that this is a dark beer with some shy ruby highlight when held to the light. But, I didn’t smell coffee neither spicy. I smelt roasted grains and very light hop. For me this brew is not sweet as someone stressed. Neither hight carbonated (but some lacing created a texture on the glass). The bitternes is medium and dry. The body for me is really thin, light and probably that is what disappointed me a bit. It doesn’t suck but.... well, it’s not that gorgeous, it’s not sexy. It’s drinkable, don’t take me bad, but who wants to keep fucking the same behaved girl forever? Profanity wasn’t a fair adjective.

The head is robust, The body black. It smells sweet roasty. The taste is roasty, sweet, a little bit soft and dry, also a bit hoppy and creamy. Nice and soft-sweet! 13/12/12/12/11/12

Bought this one at Beers of Europe and poured it into a snifter. It’s appearance is very dark with a faintly detectable ruby red color when held up to a light. The aroma is sweet almost floral. The flavour coffee with a bitter finish and it flows across the palate with a lot of carbonation. Overall a very well blended stout I will buy this one by the case!!!
